Hi all,

Mine is Feb 15th and have mixed emotions between happiness that I will take this journey which I am hoping it will be a successful journey and between being so afraid as I never been in any kind of surgery before I even don’t know how the surgery room will looks like also I am afraid from the complications I need some encouragement this is why I am hereJ

Good luck all and keep me posted with your results

At dinner tonight i asked my wife about how she felt before her surgery date a year ago because she really is the biggest crybaby when it comes to pain, its crazy how much of a baby she is to anything litterly screaming or crying over stuff. To sum it up and keep it simple she said that after going out for years with her skinny good looking friends and always being the big one out of her group, and guys always fawning over her friends and ignoring her she was just emotionally ready for this. She was like probably most of us she could go all out crazy and drop 30,40,50 lbs but it always came back. She also has type 1 diabetes so with what she would be forced to eat sometimes for low sugar would always fight against her diets and she would gain again. The past 6 months she had a broken foot and messed up her back and has not been able to exersize at all, normally a person would gain and she continued to lose still that is amazing.

I just got back from fuddruckers and had a 1lb burger and finished it, it was on my bucketlist of food items before i get the band.

Will, My lap band surgery manual has a line in it that looks like this:

NO LAST SUPPER BEFORE SURGERY!!!!

So you decide! lol 001_tt2.gif

That's so funny, Greekie! I guess they predicted what everyone was thinking.

I think it is normal to freak a little bit about having surgery...no one does that often...I'm excited about changing my life, but I'd be lying if I said I am not apprehensive about the surgery itself. It will be my third laproscopic surgery--I had a Da Vinci "robot" hysterectomy 2 years ago, and a ovaian cyst removed 25 years ago. Anesthesia is not my friend, so I dread that. But I am trying to focus on how this lap band can help me get healthier as well as thinner....Deb

I am so nervous about the surgery that I'm not able to eat, I'm just not hungry at all now, I even feel sick after I force myself to eat. Since my initial consult on 1/19 I've lost 8 lbs. I don't start my pre-op shake diet til next week. Wondering if I'll be able to tolerate it. I see the surgeon on 2/06 and surgery is 2/21.

Starting my second week of the pre-op diet! So far I have lost 17lbs during the first week of the diet. I get banded on 2/6/2012! I started at 375 and Doctor would like me to get to 200. So I am looking to lose 175lbs. total!

Same here but let us support and engourage each other.. what I am doing now to shift my thinking is to think about other things also keep checking my old cloth when I was size 10 and this engourages me a lot..

Lol I have a couple of new jeans I had bought and couldn't wear cause they were my goal jeans. Well let's just say they are now 2 sizes too small from when I bought them, they are my inspiration. "I bought you and darn you I'm going to wear you!!" And then pass you on and get smaller jeans then that.

My heart is in this I don't want to keep going sizes up and packing away the clothes I'm too big for. I want to lose the weight and inches and get rid of the big girl clothes as soon as they get baggy.

It's just my anxieties getting the best of me that's keeping me from eating and being able to stomach anything. I'm a single mom of 3. Stressing over the surgery, healing post op, and being able to still take care of their needs.

Thankful to have this site as a reminder that im not alone.

Hi All! New to the site! My surgery date is February 10th :) I'm scared out of my wits, but excited too. I am a little worried because I have read where others aren't doing too well on the Protein. I'm hoping that I tolerate it pretty well, and that I do okay on the liquid diet. Wow, just 11 more days....! :o

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
