December Bandsters!! How Ya Feeling??

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill last Monday (1/30); first they took out what was in the band to see how much, then they did the fill. It was too tight, so they took some out and now its too loose - I gained 2.7 lbs last week. So I'm going to have to go back next week and get another fill (have to wait 2 weeks between). No wonder they call it bandster hell!

Starting working out again at Curves again, though, and that's helping, plus I got some Mio to put in my Water so I'm drinking more. Doing WW online (I've been on it for 3 years) and am much more comfortable with it than with the True Results "diet". Just concentrating on Protein and veggies, but making sure I get some dairy and healthy oils in, too. Lots of beans!

Has anyone else had problems with their fills? Mine was almost just right after my surgery - very frustrated!

Have you seen anything yet?

Get a bottle of Melio. You can find it in with the Crystal Light at Wal-Mart and it comes in lots of flavors - no calories! I got the Peach Tea and squirt it into my bottle or glass when I'm home and I'm drinking a lot more. Someone on the site suggested it as a "must have" for after your surgery and I had it - just never tried it. They were right!

Second fill today, 6.5 cc's. I asked why so much and Dr. Elli explained that it typically takes low BMI bandsters longer to get to the green zone. I've gained .5 lbs since my first fill. When he x-rayed me to fill he tells me that with the previous 4 cc's I was completely open. I'm a little discouraged- liquids for two days and I am already starving. This is most definitely bandster hell! Looking for an emotional eaters or overeaters anonymous meeting in the South Bend or Valparaiso IN area- anyone know of someplace?

Mine felt just right after surgery too. Weeks 3&4 post op offered perfect restriction. Guess that's what we work toward?

Having trouble getting moving, have always detested exercise, hated physical Ed as a kid. But, I broke 250 this morning! I feel so much better, I park far out in a stores parking lot to walk in and look straight at my silahoutte in the glass doors when I go in instead of looking anywhere else but at me. When my DH and I go to a restaurant and the hostess asks booth or table, I can say it doesn't matter because I now fit in a booth. I am HAPPY!!!!!

Personally, I think that's a crock and it doesn't make a lot of sense. Wouldn't people with a lower BMI need less? I'm calling tomorrow for an appointment next week and I'm going to ask her to put in EXACTLY what the doctor put in during my surgery and then to just add a little more (like 1 cc). I was so close to it being perfect and now I'm starving like you are. I ate a whole (lunch size) cobb salad today at noon, which should have made me sick, and I was definitely ready for dinner. So frustrated!

Feeling a little bit discouraged. Was banded 12/14 I think it was... 5cc's were put in making me only be able to drink 4oz of Water a day, I became severely dehydrated having pressure/pain on my left side of my head, they removed ALL of my fill so I could get water in, pain finally went away once I could get more water in but here I am now... called to see if I could get a fill because I am feeling hungry more often through out the day, however the nurse said they are not going to give me a fill until I can start keeping food down. I get sick weekly, (almost daily) it doesn't make sense. I ate a chicken thigh from KFC, it went down fine - the next week I got a grilled chicken breast from KFC and I couldn't keep it down. Yesterday I took a thin sliver of lunch meat ham, it came back up. I do well with Soups, green Beans, mash potatoes and believe this... even spegetti (which I thought we couldn't eat, but I've tried it and that stays down) but almost everything else comes back up. I'm chewing like crazy, I'm eating slow. To not even have a fill in me, it's weird that I'm getting sick on many foods though. This is really starting to get to me and make me sad.

Well, I have my date (FINALLY) to have my port flipped back over. Monday, I go in to have the port fixed and get my first fill (again...FINALLY). I have gone through all the emotions, mad, sad, happy, depressed...and that was just in the first day I found out my port was flipped and couldnt get my fill. Well, I'm doing much better now and know that I am in good hands...this is just a minor speed bump. I'm just really hoping my dr does my fill at the time he opens me up to fix my port so I dont have to wait even longer the feel some restriction. I was banded on 12/22, and was really hoping that I could have been able to lose more by now, but since surgery, I have actually gained 3 lbs. I just want to be back on the road to 'loserville' and reach 'goalville' as soon as possible :)

I was banded 12/13 and have not had a fill yet. I have lost 33 pounds just since surgery. I have been on solids since 10 days after banding and have not had a problem with anything until last week. All of a sudden stuff I was eating before is now getting stuck. The only way to unstick it is throwing up. I have an appointment to see the surgeon on the 24th I just hope my band hasn't slipped. It doesn't happen everytime but at least 70% of the time.

Wow, how in the world did your port flip? They took my fill out to because of dehydration problems so I feel ya... I can't wait to get a fill too. I feel so far behind the "Dec" group as far as loosing weight goes. Can't wait to get back on track.

You guys aren't behind - my fill isn't right and I've gained 3 lbs since last Monday, even though I've been working out every day. We'll all get caught up eventually - and I have to remind myself that this isn't a race!

I was banded on 12/12. 2nd fill is next Friday. I have very little restriction. I realized if I want to lose right now I have to put in the work. That's what I am doing :) all the hard work this time will pay off and stay off thanks to my band.

So... I have a little restriction! Not as good as I felt we 3&4 after surgery but I think we're getting there. In two weeks if I still feel this restriction I will wait for my 3 month follow up for another fill. I do realize it is only 2 days since the 6.5 but I am ecstatic about actually feeling something:)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
