Who Knows And What Do You Tell People After Lap Band Surgery...

Who have you told about the LapBand? I personally am not telling many about my surgery. Out of my family only my parents and one of my aunts know and I also have one friend that I have told about it. People have so many different opinions of it and of course there's always the "It's the easy way out" (which is not the case at all) and the "Why can't you just do it the normal way?" which are really my reasons in not telling others.. Changing life-long habits is hard and the last thing I want to deal with is people criticizing and questioning me, so they just won't know.. Which leads to my next question.. What do you tell people when they ask you about how you lost the weight? Obviously there's always the diet and exercise, but do people really believe it? I'm in college and will be having the surgery over out Christmas break, in which I won't see any of my friends for a month so I'm guessing they will probably notice, and I know my family will notice since I don't come home from school that often.. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter what you tell people and if they believe you or not, I was just wondering what yall tell people

  • Everyone know I had the surgery, and if anyone asks I gladly tell them. I am proud to be banded and losing weight.

I chose to only tell my parents, my sister, my hubby and my 2 children(who are over 19) about it for the same reasons you discussed above. Everyone else I just say I see a nutrionist and exercise. W

I told my family, one of my friends and a couple plus size women at my gym. I started a new job 6 months after surgery. While am still over weight these people did not know me at my largest 160 pounds ago (I lost about 100 pounds before surgery). I choose not to tell these people because you know they will be sure to remember the one munchkin you ate at the coffee station but forget the baked skinless chicken breast and veggies that you have every day for lunch.
