Pre-op diet recipes idea

Recommended Posts

I am a BIG cooker (no pun intended.) I think I am going to get major bored with this pre-op diet. Any ideas to spice it up, but not add cards or fats? It's pretty strict, but I can add spices and such.

I am also at a loss for Breakfast. I hate eggs so I don't know what do to.

Are you as scared of the diet as me? I am terrified. I am so addicted to food it's ridiculous.

I had a Protein Drink for breakfast and lunch. For dinner I had 4 oz of Protein, a half cup of veggies and a half cup of carbs.

I'm on all Protein Shakes with 2 cups of veggies at dinner. I've spiced up my Protein Drinks with extracts (not syrups which are high in sugar). I add a couple drops of pie spice flavor to Muscle Milk Latte powder for a drink similar to a spiced latte. I add coconut and banana extract to strawberry Protein Powder. Orange to vanilla for a creamsicle taste. It is a lot of fun to experiment.

Protein Shakes aren't in my pre-opp diet. I wish they were! I even ordered some special kind thinking they would be. But I can use them after.

Cream of wheat, steel cut oats or any low sugar grain Cereal will

work. tuna or almost any fish is OK. If you're on liquids, I got to

like costco Protein Powder with skim milk and mixed with an immersion

blender and their chicken bouillon powder (I mixed Protein isolate

in it). There are a lot of other ideas here that make things a little easier.

They told me no carbs whosoever except from a little fruit in the morning. I feel like I am doing Atkins, but with far less choices! I wish I could just do atkins!

Did you see a dietician to educate you on your preop diet? I'm not sure if all surgeons do this, mine did. If so I would give he/she a call and see what they suggest. I find it odd they aren't allowing you Protein drinks, but I know every surgeon is different.

This is my 3rd day. It seems the hardest so far. I had a scrambled egg with a piece of farmers cheese and a Protein Shake. So I'm being real good the rest of the day. I mixed cream of broccoli, chicken and potato Soups together with chicken Soup flavored Protein. There is an app on Iphone for calorie counter. It's great for keeping track of what your eating and drinking.

I'm on Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch and then 4oz of lean meat and 1 cp of veggies for dinner. I can add berries, extracts, and SF pudding to my Protein shakes for flavor. I get the Body Fortress ($15 for 2lbs, 26g Protein, 100 cal, 1g sugar, and (i think) 4 carbs). I have the chocalte that I blend with just soy milk and ice and its awesome. Then the strawberry I put frozen strawberries (no sugar added) and the soymilk & ice. I bring those with me to work for breakfast. Then for lunch, since I'm not dragging my Ninja blender (<-- awesome!) to work, I'm bringin the premade Muscle Milk light, that is not so great. Between lunch and dinner I'm pretty hungry but I'm making it. For dinner, so far, I've had chicken breast, with either garlic and herb or lemon pepper seasoning. Then, some veggies. I was at a Mediteranian deli the day before my pre-op started and I had these grilled lemon saucy zuchinni things and IT.WAS.AMAZING! So I've basically been recreating that every night so far. I just put lemon pepper on my zuchinni and grill it on the George Foreman grill its soooo good. Another night I took some butternut squash, cut it up like fries, put some sea salt on it and roasted them, yummy. So far, that's all i've done. What other recipes have you all tried???

I'm envious of you folks. I am on day 4 of my pre-op diet. 3 Protein shakes per day and at least 64 ounces of non-carbonated, non-caffeinated, and non-caloric liquids. I can also have sugar-free Jello, sugar free popsicles, and no sugar added fudge-sicles. The first three days weren't too bad. Today has been awful - two of my office mates had lunch at their desks, so I was treated to the tempting aromas from their pizza and Chinese food.

I cheated a bit with my dinner smoothie; I added a tablespoon of Peanut Butter and a table spoon of cocoa. It was delish!

Nine more days of smoothies, then one day of Clear Liquids and finally, surgery !

I'm so jealous that you can eat food at least! LOL I'm on pretty much all liquid. Protein shakes, and I can have 2 cups of vegetables a day, broth, sugar free Jello or ice pops and that's about it. I made myself a spinach Soup the other day with chicken broth, spinach and I scrambled an egg in it. It was like the italian Stracciatella soup. Not too bad. I also made myself a spaghetti squash and topped it with tomatoes that I mixed up with garlic and spices (no oil) That's about all the recipes I have come up with so far.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
