Newly banded...question about liquid and hunger

Recommended Posts

My hunger returned on day 5. I am still on liquids. The problem is that after a few sips the hunger goes away. But only to return 30 minutes later. Last night i had too much broth and was miserable for like the next hour. I drink like 2-4 oz of Protein Shake and its too much. Is it just because im on liquids? Swelling? I am just hungry all freakin day. Is this the beginning of bandster hell?

the SAME thing happened to me the other day. I had surgery the day after you did and felt exactly the same way on day 5...starving but miserable when I "ate" too much. I have found that pouring a SMALL amount (maybe an ounce) of Protein Shake into a glass or sippy cup (which was recommended to me by a nurse to prevent taking in air) and slowly taking in that over a period of about 20 minutes helps.

I ate too much the other day...too much Protein Shake and a few too many bites of SF yogurt....and I was miserable for hours! Last night I ate broth and stopped before I even felt full and that kept me from feeling terrible. I've found that my limit lately is probably an ounce of "food"-like liquids. I can drink more Water than that, but I have to limit myself when it comes to "filling" liquids like broth or Protein shakes.

I felt just as frustrated as you do, and I know that I will only feel more frustrated as I learn what I can and can't handle. But this is all a learning experience, I have to keep reminding myself. Try taking in smaller amount of Protein shake in greater intervals, and don't forget to NOT drink while you "eat." (I put that in quotation marks because who am I kidding, broth isn't FOOD!) ;) Good luck!

your stomach is still swollen. be patient, this is the hardest part. It gets better. you also probably don't have a fill, so expect that you will be hungry. I was directed to take a sip of something every 5 minutes during waking hours in those first few days. Maybe that would help, so your drinking very slowly and consistently.

I'm on day 5 and my hunger came day before yesterday. I was worried because I read that you shouldn't feel hunger for the first week. Thankfully, my dr said it would be ok to eat applesauce and cream of wheat and that seems to subside me longer. I had a miserable day yesterday with brief moments of, what did I just do? Today is a much better day.

that happens and I thought I would go crazy a year ago. It will be like that at times until you start getting adjustments and reach restriction. Talk with your doc. I did and 2 weeks post surgery he allowed me to add soft foods b/c I wasnt staying full long off broth etc. It took me months to get restriciton so be awre of that. may take several adjustments. It will be ok

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
