Sept 2011 bandsters

Hi Guys,

I got my lap band on Sept 15 - I felt great up to now ... however last night I started feeling muscular type pains in my stomach (at the top center incision area) everytime I move - this may have been caused from me moving too quickly. I am wondering if anyone has felt similar type pains.

Thanks all. I think I have been overdoing it with the bending and all the walking and other housework. I've been naughty a couple times and have picked up my 2 yr old even though im not supposed to lift him for 6 weeks. I feel fine first thing in the morn until i get out of bed and start picking up and cooking and so forth. I will take it easy from now on. Thanks!

I went back to the doc 2 weeks out because I was sure something else was wrong with me and me over doing it (having 4 kids how can you not?) is what the doc said was wrong ,lol. So embarrassing to go to the doc because I was over doing it. I am sure in another week you will be feeling tons better. Even with me resting on the couch just trying to give the kids instructions for chores, homework, all that would tense up my ab muscles and it just made healing drag on. Take it easy!

So i went grocery shopping today (Trader Joe's and Ralph's )

And i could honestly only shop in two isles.

The dairy products (cheese & yogurt ) and the soup isle. Made shopping so much easier! cool.gif

I got my band on Sept. 15. About a week ago I started getting really hungry. When I eat i get full quickly but then I am hungry again an hour or 2 later. Is this normal? I have my post op appointment on Thursday. I hope I get a fill then.

My nut says i should have 1/2 cup at each meal but i'm finding that i can get down much more than that cuz i'm just not full! Anyone else feeling this? Don't get my first fill for another 3 weeks.

Honestly, from 4 days post-op, I've been slightly hungry pretty often. I will add another protein drink, or a soft food or soup, but only a little bit. Until you get a fill, please be careful - you should be able to have a little bit more, if you're truly hungry... but be easy on yourself. This is a lifelong process we're all going through. There will be ups and downs.

Mmmm... I can eat hummus by the spoonful, no problem!

I agree! Hummus without crackers or baby carrots is not worth it to me. Same with baba ganoush!

I know, right? Think of the money we'll save on food... I'm looking forward to being able to pack a lunch of a few pieces of meat and string cheese and that's it.

Janice, I too hit a little plateau last week or so. My cousin who is 18 months post op says she was told that your body WILL FIGHT to maintain! :-) It's not your fault. This will be something we all will live with for the rest of our lives... take heart! Personally, if I am having very bad hunger pangs, I will simply eat a high protein item, but a small amount.

And I agree with someone else... weigh yourself twice a week at most. This is gonna take a while. I bet you probably heard that lapband is NOT the fastest weight loss surgery, if you wanted that you'd have gone with Roux-en-Y or stomach stapling.

Don't be hard on yourself. You're doing the best you can, and that will serve you well in the months and years ahead.

I was banded on 9/21 and am frustrated. I lost about a lb. a day after the surgery and was excited. The last few days I gained 2 lbs and I can't get it to budge. I am adhering to my diet. I'm not experiencing head hunger. I haven't cheated. I'm doing my walking. I don't feel like I'm being starved. I just can't lose another ounce. Any suggestions?

I see you had the plication, how is it going. I would like to share stories so that we can be support to each other. I had the plication also, just want to see if we are feeling the same.

Nice to hear from the newly post op. Me too. Had a banded plication 9/19 and woke up this am starving half to death. Luckily time to go to full liquids which seemed to stick a lttle better. I wish I could burp. No problems with gas the other way. I have been trying to move alot in order to prevent gas problems. That was my biggest fear. Best of luck to all!

Hi all, I was banded Sept 16. I didn't have a preop diet; gained 1 lb @ 3 days post op then lost 12 lbs fairly easily. Now at

3 weeks post op, I have been in a stall for 12 days!! Amazing!! I like what was said that our body will fight to keep what it

has! If anything, I have learned patience....I know it will come but I agree, it is hard and I must quit weighing every day! My first fill will be Nov 3. BTW, I am probably the granny of the group--I turn 65 this month.

LOL at the farting!!

Hi,

Surgery September 19th and very happy. Some pain, lots if pain Meds. Only had small breakdown when I went to pay a ticket and was told I was in rhetorically wrong place to pay it. I cried walking out. Not sure why.

This is early am on my 3rd day out. Ddnt have any pain until I picked up a bag of groceries. Oops!

Mild gas pains but gas x helps big time. Never knew farting could feel so good. Wow.

Not much more to say drinking v water and cream soups. Love ghethe fudge scicles. Ttyl8r

Granny schmanny. Your never too old to do something for yourself. I was banded 9-1-11 am at a standstill myself. I go for my second fill this Wed. and hoping to get better food restriction. Eating the right things just too much of them. I lost 14 lbs on the preop diet and another 13 postop. I know if I would get moving more it would come off. I am thinking about asking my hubby for a personal trainer for my B-day. Never thought I would ask for that for anything. Keep up the good work.

Been out a few days. Reading the posts from different people I can concur the same experiences. I stalled 10 days ago haven't lost another pound. Not sure what's going on, I'm more than following the food plan to a T. Banded on Sept 13 I am on Stage 3 pureed foods but I stick with cream soups mainly. I take 1 large protein drink all morning with 48grams of protein. I am rarely hungry. The only thing I haven't increased is my walking.

Got sick this last week with wheezing in my bronchial tubes. I coughed so hard I pulled some rib muscles near my port area and by Friday when i would cough I had a HORRIBLE stabbing pain next to the large incision. So if you think you are starting to get sick, go to the doctor quickly to get a handle on it. I got the coughing and wheezing under control by yesterday but I still hurt so much - don't wish this on anyone.

Yesterday was my granddaughter's 3rd birthday. They had chips, dips, fruit tray, veggie tray, cold drinks, cake and ice cream. Oh Yeah = PIZZA! I took a couple of spoonfuls of guacamole since it was mashed. Took 1 small cube of cantalope, honeydew, watermelon and 1 strawberry and 2 grapes- I peeled the grapes, cut the seeds off the strawberry, cut the melons in tiny tiny pieces and chewed them good. I figure that was ok since I have had some more lumpy soups and soft egg. I had no problems with being tempted with the pizza, cake or ice cream - I visualized a cheering section cheering me on as I said NO Thank you. I also visualized myself doubled over in gas pains when I heard the word PIZZA - boy, that works!!

I got extremely stressful news on Friday - devastatingly depressive news. I was so down, my first thought would be forget this all - go eat something - then I thought about WHY I did the lap band and why I am going thru this - to get healthier for ME to have a better life. In the past when I have gotten bad news, I have gone into this hole and eat myself silly but this time, I am saying NO to my old self and thoughts that would cause this - proud to say I haven't gone off the wagon. Guess What? The bad news never changed when I would eat thru the stress - this time I feel better about myself for doing this for me knowing it won't change the bad news. I crossed over a past stumbling block with victory and I can be happy with that.

Don't be nervous about the fill. It felt weird but didn't hurt. The worst thing about it is going back to liquids again. I go back for my 2nd fill this Wed. I need more restriction. The whole house is eating better since I was banded on 9-1 and my husband has lost more than me and I could just kill him for that. Good luck with your fill. Friend me and let me know how your fill goes. :D

I did not have a preop diet like most others here. A week before surgery, i needed to have 2 protein shakes for 2 of the meals and then have a sensible high protein and low carbs for the 3rd meal. 3 days before i was on full liquids and 1 day before was just clear liquids.

I agree about most things going down well. I'm trying to be real careful with food choices but i've gotta tell ya, after having to be on the liquid diet, i'm really happy to be sampling foods i thought i could never eat. Of course, while i'm eating, i'm paying very very close attention to my band. When i feel the slightest tightness in my chest i stop completely. My first fill is Nov 7 and am really nervous about it.

Thanks Stacy the Great! I sure know what you mean about moving!! It is so hard for me too--I'm such a couch potato! My husband has been good about draging me out 4-5 days a week for a walk so that's a start anyway. I also half heartedly do some weights on my arms and legs. I chart 10 min a day for that....I would feel more motivated if I could get out of this stall...never give up!!!
