I am 3 weeks post op and on soft foods. Tonight for dinner I had abt 1/2 cup of soft broccoli w/chesse sauce. I also picked at half a chicken wing. I ate until my broccoli was gone, there was no indicator that I was full. Now i full full, but kind of in my chest area. I started drinking 30 minutes later and I have no problem with my fluids going down. What's this feeling?

Hello,

From what my doctor says, you don't want to feel full, you want to feel satisfied, no longer hungry as you were when you started eating.....and this is a challenge....especially for me. I am used to feeling full, really full, and I have to re-train my brain into understanding satiety versus fullness. Eat your Protein first, just in case 1/2 cup fills you up, then work on the veggies if your still hungry. Take at least 30 minutes to eat, this gives enough time to sit back for a couple of minutes to gage your satiety level. Hope this helps.

It helps alot, thanks! Satiety is new to me and I cant say that I fully know what it is based on experience, but I am still very new and have a lot to learn. My doctor told me the same thing about Protein first, but I was scared to eat the chicken to be honest with you. I'm still learning what all of this means as I move through the stages. Thankfully, next week I will be on solids again so it wont be too much of a question if I am eating the wrong thing.

could be a little gas to from the broccoli. you will figure out what you can and can't eat. chicken and fish are the easiest things to eat.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
