Hello,

I'm a new member that is in the process of getting the lap band surgery. I have been over weight for about 15 years. It started as soon as I got married. I've tried dieting and exercise but its hard to do when both parents work and have children. My wife works M-F and I work a 12 hour rotating shift(days/nights). My wife had the stomach band surgery about six years ago and she looks great. I told her that I am tired of all the fad diets, I don't like the way I look and I'm concerned about my health. A couple of weeks ago I went to a seminar given by Dr. Hadar Spivak. He discussed the pros and cons of the Lap-Band and the Gastric Bypass surgeries. When I met with the him I had my mind set to go with the Gastric Bypass surgery. On my way home I changed my mind and have decided to go with the Lap-Band instead. The good news is that my insurance company has already approved it and I'm scheduled for surgery on March 31st. I can't wait!

Grats Steven, and welcome to the best support group Ive found. Everyone here seems to be open, honest (even if it does hurt) and so willing to help each other out. Ask lots of questions before your surgery, which will be here before you know it. Im sure you'll find lots of support here.

And Im SO glad you chose the band. The bypass makes me cringe for so many reasons.

Hi Steven, and welcome to LBT!! Congratulations on your approval and surgery date.

What sort of surgery did your wife have, exactly? Did she have a non-adjustable band in the U.S., or lap-band somewhere else? We'd love to hear from someone who's had a band for so long, even if it's a different kind. Tell we said hi!!

Congratulations and welcome! I hope you'll look back on this decision as one of the best things you 've ever done for yourself! Most of the people here seem to feel that way, even those who have had difficulties with the band. I"m wi th Susan...the band makes me just cringe for lots of reasons, so I'm glad you went with the band, too.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Emly

Congrats on your surgery date! Dr. Spivak and his staff are wonderful! I was there today to get a fill and there were a few men there getting their fills done. I talked to one man and he was very happy with his choice and I am sure you will be too. Welcome aboard! :clap2: If you have any questions about Dr. Spivak or his staff and how they do things feel free to ask!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
