has anyone brought food with them to fills?

Recommended Posts

hello all, sorry if this is in the wrong topic, but I finally found a doctor in NJ willing to take me since I moved from CA. I'm going for an unfill next week and am thinking about bringing a boiled egg with me!! I want to make sure I can eat that, since right now the only thing I can tolerate is yogurt.

NO ! You will be swollen anyway from him working with the band.

So. rule is 3days liquid, 1day mushies, then try food.

You don't want to swell up from that egg.

Shirley.

My dr's policy is no food for 24 hours, just liquids. If you don't have a problem after 24 hours you can go back to normal eating. If you find you can't eat then go back to liquids for a couple of days, try eating again if you still have a problem call the office for an unfill. I suggest you do not take food with you or even try to eat. Just stick with a liquid diet for the rest of the day. I can not even have anything to eat before my fill that morning. No eating after midnight. Just Water the next the morning.

i am not to eat solid foods 4 hours before my fill, and liquids for 2 days after. every sugeon is different. i doubt eating a boiled egg right then will fly with the doctor, but i would call the office before your fill and see what your surgeons policy is.

Well, this is an UN-fill you are talking about, not a fill. I understand what you are saying about wanting to be sure you've had enough removed to be sure you can eat.

I can't remember what my rules were after my slight unfill. I just remember the relief when the Water he gave me didn't cause pain! I'd ask the doc before eating. If he removes all the fill to see how much you have, then puts it back in, less some there will be some trauma and possible swelling. So you might have the no solids for a while rule. If he just takes half a CC out, then perhaps not.

why on earth would you do that when you know you have to be on liquids for a day or 2 after the fill>?

My doc has the same re-feeding policy for UNFILLS (which is what the OP is going for.. not a fill) as for fills. Liquids that day, mushies that evening, back to solids the next day. He wants us back on real food as soon as we can tolerate it because that's how the band works best.

A boiled egg probably wouldn't be the best idea, but I like the suggestion to call the doc's office and talk to one of the staff and see what they think. Their approach might be totally different than others.

I have taken a carton of chocolate milk (low-fat) with me to a fill appt. Mainly because they ask us not to eat for 4 hours before a fill, and I knew I was going to be hungry. And I was and the choc. milk worked (yes, there might've been better choices, but I had to work with what I could find .. as my doc is an hour drive from my home).

Everyone's docs are so different.....mine says to bring a "mushy" food w/ you so I will bring a yogurt, luna bar, or a bananna. I'm 1hour and 1/2 away from the doc so she said she def wants to make sure I'm not in the red zone before I leave town.

The rules are no eating 2 hours before and fill, no meats on the day of fill, mushies rest of day next day regular diet.

hth,

Fill or unfill it doesn't matter with my doctor. It's 12-24 hours of liquid either way!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
