How many carbs are you eating per day?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious how Lap Bandsters are approaching low carbing. Atkins (Induction phase) says 15-20 grams of netcarbs from your leafy green vegetables food group. Yet, I find it difficult to even eat one cup of green leafy vegetables because I still have to fit in my Protein. How do we adjust being low carbers with a Lap Band? I'm still trying to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm usually between 50 and 75 grams. No bread, just fruit and a little bit of high Protein and Fiber Cereal in my yogurt.

I don't actually count the carbs, but I AVOID them except what is naturally in my whole foods ie meat, vegetables, fruits.

I will eat a high quality Protein bar for a snack (expensive!!!) or oatmeal for Breakfast and those have 'carbs', but my meals throughout the day (except on CHEAT days!) consist of no unnatural carbs, all adkins approved foods.

It makes all the difference in the world for me. I was on vacation and did not watch what I ate, and gained 3 pounds last week.

Been back on track the past couple days and lost those 3 plus another pound already, just by eliminating carbs.

I don't keep track of my net carbs in my food journal, but rather the total carbs, so my count is not truely accurate as far as net carb counting goes...I try to keep between 50-70g of carbs/day.

Is there anybody else trying Atkins? I'm trying to do it but I'm wondering if it can be done as a Lap Bandster. I'm not talking about a modified version either.

I am going to try counting carbs. I was looking with how many I should have and I am glad I found this thread. My doctor wants very low carb, but I really havent been strict, now I am stuck for over a year and its time to get it moving again, and watching my carbs.

Great decision. I know that low carbing is the only thing that keeps my weight loss going. Plus it's an easier way of life than low fat. I'm currently eating 20 g of carbs per day. I'm following the Atkins way somewhat. I have to adjust my veggies intake according to what I can take in 5 ounces with my Protein. However, my body fat is definately decreasing. My waist is getting smaller and the cravings go away after a good week of staying on it.

I'm about to be bumped off of ketosis though because I'm getting a fill on Wednesday which means the 3 days of liquids, mushies, solids again. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you. I definately recommend getting "The New Atkins" book. It's really taught me about how my body works.

See, I want to do this too because I know that carbs are my issue. I'm actually on day two of REALLY watching my carbs/sugar and I'm shaking and tired. But when I went on the Lean Cuisine website for example, because the only way I'm going to eat is if I live out of a box and frozen foods since my life just isn't practical for real cooking during the week, but all the dinners that are above 15 grams of Protein are about 30-50 grams of carbs so if I eat two of them a day, I'm easily above 50 grams of carbs and that doesn't include Breakfast (which is usually an egg and yogurt). So I could be lookin at 100 grams of carbs per day and living on Lean Cuisines or Smart Ones.

This is getting more and more difficult.

Did you guys get access to the Lindora site when you got banded? I did and after reading through their website I found that if I do low fat that I can have 40-50 carbs a day and still lose weight. If I do high fat like Atkins I have to do 20 carbs a day. I base my meals on 3-4 oz of Protein and usually only a 1/2 cup of veggies. Breakfast is a poached egg and 2 turkey sausage links. lunch today was a taco salad made with lean ground beef, reduced fat cheese and a homemade low fat/ low cal/ low carb Salad Dressing. I used a 1/2 cup of lettuce for the salad. My treat at night is unsweetened almon milk with Hershey's cocoa and Splenda.

As for convenience: I buy lean meat in family packs. Then I repackage them. I freeze 1 piece/ portion of meat per bag. Then it's super quick to thaw and cook. I precook a pound of taco meat and then freeze it in 4 oz portions. It defrosts in just a few minutes and you can have a small Protein rich meal in under 10 minutes.

HI, im new here and havent been banded yet. However, I have been low carb for 4 years now. I went from a size 24 to the size 18 I am now. I lost 62 pounds before i got preggers and gained 20 lbs post pregnancy. I do about 20-30 grams a day. I cook like crazy and limit sodium. There is a site called netrition that I use to buy low carb goodies. They have these things called mashers that I love when I'm craving mash potatoes!!

I am eating under 60 carbs on the advice of my nutritionist. I also keep my fats under 28 grams and I am steadily loosing at 4 weeks after surgery without hunger. I am staying in moderate ketosis.

my nutritionist recommended I stay at 68 grams of carb. I usually try to stay below that number. I rarely have bread, flatouts are good and seem to satisfy the "sandwich" need I sometimes feel!! I eat the carbs early in the day, breakfast and lunch. none at evening meal. she wants me to eat 60 - 80 grams Protein, but that is hard to do! sometimes I will get a big kick with a protein shake(32 grams) but not often. trying to stay away from the liquid meals.

Well you do what you want but I will say that you need at least 50 grams of carbs per day for proper brain function. This is why the Adkins diet failed most of the people who were on it. Try to get a minimum of 60 grams of Protein or your hair will fall out among other things that will go wrong. I have lost over 100 pounds and will say that carbs have been about 40% of the calories I have eaten. Figure out what works for you. keep the carbs down and you will succeed but do not cut them out.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
