Newly banded cant drink the protien shakes

Recommended Posts

Hi I was just banded on May 19th.

My post op nutritional plan is for liquids for two weeks which includes 6 meals a day of which 4 have to be protien shakes. I have like 5 cases of the medifast, and I cant get down more than one per day. The minute I taste it I want to hurl, I cant stand them. I tolerate food ok, however I can just barely finish 8 oz. The last meal I had was 4 oz of Soup and a SF Jello and I forced myself.

I know that the protien shakes are optimal nutrition during this period but I cant make myself throw up either.

I wonder if medifast will take back these cases of their drinks because they are just horrible!

Please let me know about your experience with protien shakes, Which ones taste besting. Help! At this rate I am not going to make my nutritional and caloric requirements.

Thanks!

Sherry

If you can't handle the milky shakes, there are other ones that are more like a fruit drink. You can even get "unflavored" powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury which you can add to Crystal Light.

If you're just looking for a different brand that still is a normal flavor, I like Gold Standard 100% whey in Double chocolate. My husband and I think it just takes like chocolate milk, no after taste. http://www.supplementwarehouse.com/viewitem.asp?idproduct=143368

OMG Thank you so much for the information. I like the idea of the flavorless thing that I can add to crystal light. That sounds right up my ally. I will check into it. Is that something you can buy in the store or something that you have to get online?

Thanks,

Sherry

Hydro-Whey from GNC is by far my favorite. If you like mochas, this tastes just like one if you add a little coffee in the chocolate flavored. It's great, dissolves well in cold milk or Water and tastes like chocolate milk if just mixed alone. I tried HUNDREDS of dollars in Protein until a friend shared this with me. I was so thankful! You can also buy this at GNC, try it, and if you don't like it, take it back for a full refund! Can't beat that! :D

I think that I will take a run to Gnc to get some because the other stuff I have to order on line so it will take a little while. If it takes like chocolate milk then that would be great. The medifast I just cannot stomach.

Thanks for the info!!!

GNC has unflavored Protein Powder. I use that to make my shakes. You add a small banana or other fruit along with yogurt to make it thicker. Blend very well or the texture is weird. Also if you freeze the crystal light in an ice cube tray and throw that into the blender it's yummy. You can also use Decaf coffee in place of the crystal light and make a frappacino.

Try GNC's Totally Lean Swiss chocolate pre-made drink-buy 1 to try it. They are SO good!! I hate the powder stuff-it settles at the bottom and is nasty! I tried a lot of shakes and I like Carnation instant Breakfast in a blender with skim milk and a 1/2 scoop of Unjury (ramps up the protein). I add ice to make it into a shake.< /p>

The premade water/liguid drink aren'ttoo good. The best thing about GNC is that you can return even used products for a store credit-a really great return policy. I like Atkins butthe Protein is only around 13 grams.

Definitely try some other brands of shakes. I like chocolate and vanilla Isopure from GNC...the nice thing about GNC is that you can return it if you dont like it (ask them about their return policy). Unflavored Protein powder is another great idea to help mix things up. I have also heard good things about Syntax Nector...I haven't tried it myself but know several people who love it.

Sheran,

You have some good options here! Let us know what you like. Once I found the drink I liked, I stopped looking for another. I would like to hear what you think, maybe I can switch it up a bit :-D

I use the unflavored unjury powder and it's the only Protein powder that I've found that I can live with. I have no tolerance for aspartame or artificial sweeteners so I have yet to find a RTD shake that I can stomach. I'm going to give that Gold Standard 100% whey in Double chocolate a try since I can return it if I don't like it. Someone else told me that GNC will let you sample things in the store, too.

Keep us posted on any other brands that you find that are good. It's easy to get in a rut with these Protein shakes!

I'm picky and I like the ones called Oh Yeah (the Cookies and cream or mix a chocolate and vanilla...chocoate is too sweet for me..amazingly). I also like the GNC Go Lean brand...cheaper and don't taste too bad. I also found something called the Ultimate Chocolate Milk diet and the chocolate mix they sent me in my trial pack is really good....my son even likes it.

I "borrowed" this info from another website. I hope the author doesn't mind! wink.gif They list some great websites, Protein power samples, and Vitamin samples. Excellent links! I ordered some of the samples below and can't wait for them to arrive! My personal favorite is Syntrax nectar. They have quite a few different flavors and are dee-lish mixed with only Water. I use two scoops with 16 ounces of Water and that provides me with 46 grams of Protein. You can order 13 samples of the nectar from one of the links below.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
