Does anyone know of any meds we can take with anti-inflammatory properties? I did something to my arm/shoulder and it is not going away, I assume it is some sort of tendinitis an I will be calling my drs office on Monday (not sure if I'd get anyone tomorrow) but was wondering if anyone knew of anything

Sorry bout your arm. Looks like you're gonna have to do just ice on 20 and then heat 20. Maybe some tylenol because I dont think we're allowed to have antiflamotories . Sorry Dude. hope you feel better soon.

Cardinal rule was NO WAY ! With some Dr.'s that has changed, if they new it was for short time, and Medically Necessary.

You may also consider a injection in the inflamed area.

My doc said I could take my naproxin (anti-inflamatory) right after surgery..... he said the issue with it is really one of people who have gastric bypass and not the band due to the way the stomach processes it and that a portion of the stomach and intestine are removed for bypass patients with regard to erosion or something. I take 500mg 2x/day for a while because of tendonitis, arthritis and back issues I have already so I would think the doc wouldn't have an issue with you taking it for a few days.

NSAIDs can be taken for short term use with the band. I took celebrex when I pulled muscles in my neck, I take ibuprophen when nothing else works. I havent had any issues I just dont take it every single day. Sometimes there is nothing better than advil or motrin just make sure you eat with it.

I recently read no asprin - but my doc had no problem with me taking Aleve, etc

I have nabumstone (an NSAID) left over from when I had patella tendinitis before my surgery, but I don't want to take it before checking with my doc or PA.

If one of the neurology techs at work is still in when I go in to work tomorrow, I'm gonna have her do this low light laser therapy on my arm. It's supposed to work really well and I hope she's still there, otherwise I'll have to wait til tuesday. It kind of sucks because I don't want to rest it since then that will ruin my exercise and stop my wright loss.

Jess, for now, just stick with Tylenol and either Ice or heat, whichever makes it feel better.

My surgeon will allow small doses of anti-inflammatories on a short-term basis (2 weeks), but we are also supposed to take a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) while taking the NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). Maybe yours will allow the same.

Best of luck to you. I understand being reluctant to stop working out. I strained my elbow about 9 or 10 months ago and tried for 3 months to tough it out with just reducing my weights and using a support. I finally got better after using 200 mg ibuprofen twice a day and the PPI at night.

I think we don't use cold therapy enough because it is uncomfortable, but boy does it help. Edamame/Soy Beans make the best cold pack...even better than green peas. And you can make so many sizes with zip lock type bags.

For NSAIDS I take 1 oz of children's Ibuprofen which equals 600mg chased with a big glass of water. I like the idea of a PPI for stomach protection and I like the liquid ibuprofen because it doesn't hang out in the pouch.

I am taking arthretec (anti-inflammatory) because of the jaw surgery I had recently but it is by prescription. Maybe call a 24 hour service to see what they suggest. I find the arthretec bloats me and have read online that is a side effect so i can't wait til i'm done with it - another 5.5 days. Good luck and hope you feel better. Perhaps tylenol til you can get in touch with your doc.

Mimi, I asked about liquid motrin (ibuprofen), but my doctor said it's not the "hanging out in the pouch" that's the problem, it's the systemic affect.

If your doc ok's the 600mg.. go for it. But if you haven't checked with them, you might wanna.

You are so very right, Mel, about the systemic effect. My docs are OK with NSAIDS but from hard experience I limit myself to 2 days in a row then skipping several days. Many articles have been written that 600mg or more is the thresh hold for the inflammatory effect to kick in, although of course there are many schools of thought.

For sure we must be cautious about NSAIDS, banded or not.
