Need to loose 50 lbs should i have the surgery????????

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am going to be having surgery in about 1 1/2 weeks and trying to get some advice with other guys who have had it done. What was your experience after surgery in regards to the diet and exercise? I am in need of loosing 50 lbs to be at my goal weight . I am wondering if anyone has experience visible ports or complications. For the past 3 weeks I have been eating small meals and working out in order to get a head start. I have lost 15 lbs but not sure if I should go forward with the surgery or not just a bit worried. Any comments will help. Thanks.

Cesar

If you only have 50 pounds to lose, and you have lost 15 on your own, I don't think the surgey is necessarily for you. I have lost close to 70 pounds, and yes you can see and feel my port. In the end, the decision is yours, and I pray that you make the best one for you.

Yea this is something I am struggling on what to do I am set to have the surgery in 1 1/2 weeks my insurance approved it but not sure as to what to do. Is the port very visible ? and is the port uncomfortable when you exercise?

No, the port is not very visible, but the thinner your abdomen and stomach area is, the more pronounced it will be. Truth be told, i don't plan on walking around w/o my stomach being covered, so i am cool with it. I exercise everyday whether it is the elliptical, treadmill, or bike, and my port has never interfered with it.

Hi just read your post, 50/lbs to loose and you just lost 15 what a great start. I found the band really helped me get started on healthy lifestyle and living. You will still need to work hard to make the band work. Today I work out 3 times a week with a trainer, eat very well and healthy meals and it is still a struggle to get the weight down. I was banded May 1st 2009, Wt 300/lbs. Today I am 238 which is a great! The band alone took off the first 25 but after that I had to work at it. If you think you can continue on the path with out the band than go for it.

I would suggest you tell the Dr. that for PERSONAL Family reasons you need to post pone the surgery for a month or two and see if you can keep up the momentum of weight loss. Actually! I was suppose to be banded April 1st but came down with a bronchitics so the Dr. Put of the surgery for a month. This is a big decision and what they say that the Band is a tool is so very true.

I recently had some minor issue with my band and found it has been too tight for 6 month, the Dr, took out all the Fluid as their was some inflammation etc, He also put me on a short course of steroids, so at time I was starving, but still working out, I also had to take two trips out of town. All said in the last 6 weeks my weigh went up and down about 8 / lbs but to day at when I returned I was the same as when he took out the fill. He was quite pleased as he warned me not to be surprised if I gained 5/lbs.

So hope this does not confuse you, but some wise people have told me that you don't have to do all or nothing, I would just put it off 4 to 6 weeks and see how it goes. I do not regret so far my decision as I do not think I would have gotten into this much heather life style with out it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
