Tomorrow is the big day for me. May 4th, I will be banded. At times in this journey it felt like this day would never come, but here it is, just on the other side of the sun going down and coming back up again.

I am scared, I am optimistic, I am worried and I am hopeful.

It's been an interesting journey up until now and I can only hope that it gets better from here.

Thanks so much. I guess I'm mostly afraid of the pain. Hopefully I'll have drugs and I can walk around to relieve the gas.

It was one week today. I had to stay in overnight as I think my insurance required it. It was not so bad, but yes the gas will be a pain so walk at will. The only issue was calling a nurse to unhook the heart monitor and the leg things they put on to prevent clotting. My doctor's rule was if in bed, the leg things were always on. They actually like it when you are up walking. The wing in the hospital I was in was only for bariatric patients so that was great. Good luck!!

Good luck tomorrow! I think the hardest decision was choosing to have surgery- you did that a while ago! Hope all goes well. I attend my seminar tonight and hope to have surgery before December. I know my ins covers it- just not getting any support from my MD who thinks surgery is a copout. Isn't it the surgeon who fills out the paperwork to verify medical necessity?? Looking forward to a healthy lifestyle!

yes, choosing this surgery was a big decision. I had thought about it last May, but didn't go to a seminar until January. I cried on my way home from the seminar even...i was sooooo torn about what to do. Now, I am confident that this is the right decision for me and everyone in this forum has been a huge help in swaying me in the right direction, answering my questions and calming my fears. i can't say that I would have gone through with it if not for reading the wealth of information available to me here. that's just the honest truth.

My surgeon didn't fill out any paperwork to verify the necessity, my PCP had to do that. At the time i went to the seminar, I didn't even have a PCP, so i called the surgeon's office to get a reccomendation. They referred me to a PCP and she was more than happy to tell me how fat and near death I am ;) , so she wrote the letter telling the surgeon that he had her blessing. If your PCP is giving you a hard time, just tell them that you feel that you need this and you will find another MD who agrees, so please authorize it or you're going to move on. That's what I would do anyway.....I'm sure if you express yourself to your MD, they will eventually come around to your way of thinking.

anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
