Has anyone actually NOT cheated on 2 week pre-op diet?

Hi guys,

I know how important the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver and make it a safer surgery, but did you actually complete the whole two weeks without slipping up once? I start my diet on Monday and I'm hoping I can do it without cheating. If I do cheat, maybe I'll just have a piece of grilled chicken or something. But hoping I can make it!

It is worth it to NOT cheat and it sets a tone for the rest of your journey. NOTHING and I mean nothing feels as good as health or taste as good as knowing you gave it your all. If you give in now, yo

  • I did not cheat either...it's getting it into your head that you will not. Even three weeks after the band I have still not cheated, because all I would be cheating is my weight loss. ( No chocolate i

Yes, that is what the pre-op diet is for. However, it does have side effects: moodiness, extreme hunger, depression, anger, fatigue, tiredness, weakness, etc. This is how I felt during my pre-op diet

seriously, if it weren't for those sugar free popsicles, this diet would be in the garbage can. i sooooo look forward to mine.

I had to go 12 months on a 1200 calorie diet.(Do to the Ins.) I lost over 100 LBS.

So when He said 2 weeks of liquids I told him c'mon,,, give me a break. So he said O.K., keep up the 1200 calorie a day diet, and then 3 days before surgery ! Your on Liquids only.

Everyone asked me WHY? are you doing this then. I explained that I had to, or my Ortho Surgeon would not replace my knees..It was Insurance to him, about the weight, and the knees.

I'm glad I did it.

That's how it went for me.

I don't feel like I cheated, although my diet was only 7 days long and included one low-cal meal a day in addition to the protein shakes. Starting day 2 I did add raw veggies with rice vinegar as snacks after ok'ing it with the surgeon, and for my meal the night before surgery instead of a Lean Cuisine type dinner I had white chicken meat, a small amount of rice, and plain broccoli (still within my daily calorie count).

Totally agree with you. I got/get the tropical popsicles and enjoy them still. they are so yummy and only 15calories.

I did THINK about cheating many time. In all honesty. I wanted to go after work the day before surgery and get an order of beef Phad Thai and eat it in the car all by myself...thought about doing it as a final meal so many times...but opted for what I wrote about instead. I was so glad I did the alternative. And, since surgery I have had Phad Thai twice now...in very small amounts. :)

I'm only about 6 weeks out, and other than binge I went on yesterday with chocolate (darn it!!) I'm craving vegetables, yogurt, etc...no longer sweets or fast food like I did before. If I get to sit down with a side of roasted veggies or a bowl of greek yogurt and granola (2 of my staple meals there) I'm thrilled...slowly i see my preferences changing.

ok, that was off topic a bit. Just know it does get easier. * hugs * The preop diet was the HARDEST part of this journey for me so far. Honestly and truly. And if you do feel a need to "cheat" try 1/4 cup of sorbet or a sugar free popcicle...

something else that got me thru it was drinking fruity herbal teas with splenda. They're sweet, and gave my mouth soemhting to occupy itself. ;)

I'm just about to finish day 7 of my two week pre-op diet and I haven't cheated yet. My doctor doesn't allow anything but liquids, so I've been sticking to three Muscle Milk shakes a day and water. I can also have sugar free jello, but that's it. I went out and got some sugar free gum to chew on when I really miss chewing. It's been very hard because I stay home with my kids (2 and 5) and I have to cook for them and make sure they're eating. Today my husband brought home Burger King for him and Pizza for the kids. It can be really hard to watch them eat, but I'm pushing through. I've lost 9 lbs so far, but I have been working out really hard, too. I went to the gym 5 days out of the 7 I've been on the diet. I just hope I can keep it all up for week 2 ;)

I didn't cheat. It is worth it. Lost 10 lbs. Was banded just last week (April 27) I won'tlie, the first couple days after surgery were a bitch. Just take pain med. Didn't take any last night, slept the whole night and feel GREAT today. i am down another 10 lbs. I have never been so happy . Keep your strength up. IT IS WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only had one week and the day I started we had a meeting where they ordered pizza and had cookies. I tried so hard, I did have one small brownie. That was it and it was the first day, nothing else the rest of the week. It honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be

I managed to complete the 2 weeks without slipping up. What helped me & continues to help me is that I told my coworkers that I was having the lapband surgery.Furthermore, I am an RN& am responsible for the care of the bariatric patients. I also lost 17lbs on the optifast liquid diet.

my surgery got pushed up pretty unexpectedly so I only have a full 8 days to prepare. I am on day 2 of my liquid diet and to be quite honest....yesturday all I could think about was a cheeseburger. Not just any cheeseburger either...a mcdonalds 99 cent cheeseburger...Hmmm... I guess this is going to be a long 8 days but I haven't cheated yet and of course don't have any plan too. I am hungry but I know my body is getting the protein and vitamins it needs and everyone assures me I'm not going to starve to death. So....I just need to find my happy place and do it!
