Removal of Lap band

Recommended Posts

Well I tried to work with the band but it just isn't working for me. Next month I go in for the removal of the band and I am getting gastric bypass. I am scared but I am so tired of dealing with diabetes and all the health problems I have acquired cause of it. So so long band I wonder if I can keep it once they remove it.

Why are you getting it removed?

Well I have had it for six years I started out weighing 420 I am now 360 but not because of the band every time I get it tightened it always causes problems this last time a few months ago i only had a little put in and I couldn't even keep liquids down when ever i fell asleep i would wake up vomiting everything up and it caused me to have an upper respiratory infection. So i got an unfill and a GI done stomach was a little swollen with a little acid reflux but i just see no improvement in all these years so i just want to be done with it. Luckly my insurance company approved me so fast

Good luck to you! I'm sorry to hear you had problems with the band but am happy for you that you are looking at another avenue to gain further success. I say further success because you have lost 75 pounds and that is quite an accomplishment. I do understand your frustration over the time period it took, though. You're lucky your insurance company has approved you so quickly, I'm sure that makes you even happier. Well, check back in with us and let us know how it goes with the bypass.

The best of luck to you!

Just remember that all of the rules we learned with the band will still apply with the bypass. With bypass you'll get a honeymoon period where the weight will just fall off, but (as many have found out) if you don't retrain your eating habits and follow the rules, the bypass will not be any more successful than the band...although for different reasons since you won't have to deal with the vagaries of the band.

Good luck with your bypass surgery. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
