The one piece of clothing every plus size girl needs?

Recommended Posts

We all have that one piece of clothing we can't do without. Some would say it's pantyhose, others say it's a thong.

What about you? What is the one piece of clothing you must have in your closet, and as soon as it's ruined you run to the store for another? Why do you love it so?

I say, have at least one great pair of sexy jeans. You can put it on with a nice jacket and head out to a fancy lunch. You can pair it with a flirty top and go clubbing. Looks great with heels too.

I'm with you on the jeans...and I would add a nice fitting pair of khakis, since I wear them to work most days...I teach, and have to look nice, but I want to be comfie, too. I don't like wearing dresses because of the panty hose! How about comfortable and cute underwear? Fun question! Cindy

On the outside, I would def go with the well fitting, slimming jeans. Essential for all those quick change occasions.

Under that, the right bra!!! Without it the girls just look funky, get squooshed, are too pointy, etc. Ya gotta have a good over shoulder boulder holder.

I am always on the lookout for comfy black pants. One of these days pants with a real waist band and zipper will be comfy to me, but I still want my elastic waist, black pants that can be dressed up with shoes and a nice shirt, untucked, of course. I'm NO fashion diva though. That is the one item I look to replace and buy several pair at a time. The right bra has made a big difference, too.

I think a sweater/cardigan set, that will dress up either a pair of black pants, jeans, or a skirt. I have a couple with sequins on them and I can go from casual to dressy in a "flash".

As for hangers, every time I buy anything, I always ask them to leave them on the hanger. Sometimes you'll get a clerk that doesn't care and will give you the good ones, other times, they'll grab a flimsy hanger, then I just toss it when I get home. I don't use those 10 for $1.00 hangers they ruin your clothes.

Not to steal the thread, but I always hang my cotton shirts on two hangers, inside out, less chance for the mini muscles to show, then if they do, they're inverted.

I agree with the right bra, but I haven't found it yet. That's right up there with the ill fitting pair of shoes, that's why when I walk in the door off come the shoes, then the bra.

absolutely, a decent bra.. the wrong one can add pounds and unsightly globules.. the right one can take off pounds, add shape to your body and make you look much more decent in your clothing, no matter the size.

i've worn a custom fitted bra since the late 80's and although, expensive, they last for years and years and can make or break how i look in my clothes.

I vote for a comfortable bra that actually "lifts" without cutting into my shoulders. I tried "custom" bras but the underwires start bothering me so now I just wear an "18 Hour" bra. I use them for about two months then toss them since they start to break down from the weight of my "boobs." I have scaring under my breasts due to rashes, so I am always happy to not have any weird rashes.

I cannot believe I am talking about this! :)

It's all about the right bra! I had a place here in New Jersey that did fittings and they were true miracle workers. They were so good that my sister, mom and cousines would come up to vist just to go get a bra. This place was so awesome that when the New Jersey store closed in Oct., our hubbys got together and arranged for the "New York Bust Trip" as a Christmas gift to us. They will watch the kids and pay for gas, tolls, and lodgings in NYC so were can get good bra's. As my sisters hubby said, " it's cheaper than surgery and I like the outcome".

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
