Sudden tightening of the band

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced their band getting tighter all of the sudden even months after getting a fill?

I had my last fill on 1-24-11, and I was feeling comfortable where I was and have not needed a fill since. It was tight enough but not too tight to be able to eat without getting stuck or any problems.

This week my band for some reason has become so tight that it hurts even to drink Water. It is the weirdest thing. food hurts terribly to eat, even if its soft food. I can feel it pass through the band and its really uncomfortable. I don't throw up, its just painful. I have a sensation of heartburn and when I breath really deep I can actually feel my mind squeezing. Not sure what to do.

Anyone been through this? should i get a little fill removed? It is just weird that I have been okay for 2 months and then all the sudden my band has a mind of its own..

Get a small unfill if possible. The same thing has happened to me twice. After being fine for awhile it's possible something irritated the esophogous or stoma possibly without you even realizing. It doesn't have to be a major stuck episode for this to happen. It's easily resolved with a slight unfill but if not addressed, it can lead to even more inflamation and end up causing long term trouble. Even a quarter cc can relieve all the pain and pressure you're experiencing and allow for that swelling going on to heal safely. Good luck to you

i get tight around my period too! I am usually on liquids for a week or so (and mushies) cause its tighter at that time! I even had to talk to the dr. because I noticed a pattern and had to find out what was causing the tightness! Come to find out it was the Water retention during that time of the month!

I do notice tighting around TOM. I also however fell tighter or looser depending on the time of day, if I'm really busy. The band is after all connected to muscle; and muscle tightens and loosens. I would get a small until. My nurse said if you get acid indegestion, cant eat 3 oz solid Protein, must resort to liquids to get nutrition that you are too tight. I've read of many people on this site who kept their bands too tight because they were loosing a lot of weight. In the end it backfired on them because the band slipped and had to be either replaced or totally taken out.

Thanks everyone. I have a appointment tomorrow and I am defiantly going to get a small unfill. I don't like how I'm feeling and hoping that a small unfill will take away the pain and discomfort I'm having.

Do you guys think like removing .2cc is enough? I'm at 6.2cc and thought about having them bring me down to 6cc. I don't want to remove too much but I need relief from the discomfort too....

Thanks again!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
