Hi...

I was banded 11/08/2010 and had 2 fills (4cc's in a 12cc band). I have lost 50 pounds so far, however I have noticed it hurts to eat , even soft foods, and I am vomiting often. Has anyone had this problem? I don't think I am too tight, but i might be wrong. I just question it because this started weeks after a fill. Any feedback would help...thanks!

I'd say you're too tight. If you can't eat soft foods obviously you have too much restriction. Too much vomiting can harm your band; I'd get a small unfill.

I had this problem for a little over a month. I finally called my surgeon about it, he was mad I waited to contact him. I had acid issues in my stomach. He had me try Prilosec OTC one a day. It worked! Fixed my problem. You might want to try that. I was in awful pain every time I ate and food was almost ALWAYS coming up. Hope this helps!

I agree that you're likely too tight.

It can take up to four weeks for your fill to actually take effect (several people post about this on the board). I'd suggest going to see your Dr. to get a little unfill.

Since you've been vomiting so much, you may want to ask your Dr to do the unfill under fluoroscopy with a barium swallow to make sure your band hasn't slipped (that can also account for more vomiting). You definitely don't want to get an unfill then find out that you still have the same problem and it's all due to a slip.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will call the surgeon tomorrow. I started taking Prilosec and Tums and it has helped...a lot. But I still might be too tight. Thanks again for all you help!!

I had the same problem a while back.. I was too tight and my band slipped. Now I had an unfill and waiting patiently to heal to see if it moved back.. I would call your doctor to check :)

a slight unfill of .25ccs could possibly fix the problem!

I just had a fill last week of .8 Fluid. I now have a total of 4.3 fluid. I don't know what size band I have, everytime I ask my Dr. he never tells me. I also feel very full after a few bites. I can eat solid food. I notice when I don't chew correctly or keep shoving food down my throat that I do throw up. When I chew correctly and wait in between bites I don't seem to have the problem. So I think I am going to push through this. Hopefully in another week I should loosen up. But at my last visit in January my Dr. told me I probably won't need too many more fills. He also does his fills under flouroscopy in his office.

I would be very suspicious of a doctor who won't tell you what size band you have. I got a copy of my operative report (you should ask for yours) and that's how I found out my former doctor lied to me about the size band I had. He told me a 10cc when it was 4cc. That explained why I was having so many problems with a 3cc fill. I couldn't figure out why only 3cc's in a 10cc band would cause so many problems. One of many reasons he is my former surgeon.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
