I seriously don't wear makeup, or at least I haven't until recently. I am only wearing mascara and chapstick now, anyway. I'm totally clueless on what to wear, how much to wear, etc. I want to play up my smile and eyes, which I've been told are my two best feature, but have no idea how to go about it without looking like a lady of the evening.

Try adding some eyeliner...I use a gelpen type liner (maybelline define a line), you can put this on your inner lashes and it's not as drastic or hard to put on as a pencil (IMO). This will definately make your eyes pop! It's also quick and easy :) Try a neutral tone on your lids (a brown, tan or gold...depending on skin color) and this will also bring out your eyes. I don't wear much makeup but ALWAYS have my liner & a lengthening, thickening mascara. Instead of chapstick, try a sheer gloss! I personally don't like all the other junk (foundation, etc) so nothing major is needed, just definately add in the liner, a little color on the lids and you'll look great!

I personally wear BareMinerals but that might be a little heavy for what you are looking for. If you go into one of their stores, they will give you a "make-under". Also, maybe go to a counter in one of the department stores. Tell them exactly what you want to wear and they will give some suggestions to you.

I think that just a little bit of eyeshadow can make the world of difference. You don't have to go dark or really bright, just stick with really light colors. I like pinks and purples. Also, try eyeliner! Don't go black but try brown. That will be natural and maybe give you just the look you are looking for.

I don't wear much makeup but I also love bare minerals. It feels light, doesn't look like I'm wearing makeup and gives me the right amount of coverage and color. Love bare minerals.

If I were you I would look into a session with a professional to do your makeup for you and give you tips. There are colors that best compliment your eyes by their color, your skin tone, etc. It's also important to have someone tell you what will look best for your type of skin. Maybe a day spa? I had my makeup done at MAC once and I learned SO MUCH. Good luck!

I have a hard time with bare minerals....I love the look but if I break a sweat it gets in my pores and my face starts itching horribly! A few of my friends have had the same problem. They say if you use a good moisturizer that shouldn't happen but it still happened to me :-(

I use this moisturizer on my face before putting makeup on: http://www.ddfskincare.com/c-37-moisturize.aspx I love it. Its expensive but worth it. What kind of moisturizer were you using?

I've actually tried several different kinds, from loreal to dermalogica....I still itch. :-(

its fun doing that. but if you dont have an idea on how to do make-up maybe try going to the mall and having one of those girls do it for you. like at macy's or something. JUST DONT BUY THE HUNDREDS of dollars of make-up they want you too. lol. also im sure there are websites that show you how to apply make-up and stuff. good luck!

I too had a makeup session at MAC and you don't have to buy all their product, but at least have an idea of how to do your make up and what best fits you! good luck

I had a "professional" at the mall do my makeup one time, to test out different looks for my wedding (almost 7 years ago). She had me in heavy eyeliner and dark, forest green eyeshadow. That was the last time I had someone do it (other than asking my mom to do it on my wedding day).

Yeah, I would stay away from the "mall" unless it's a high end makeup line where you actually have to MAKE an appointment. I've heard that Bobbi Brown is very good. Also, a lot of salons and day spa's have estheticians that are licensed and would probably be much more help than Suzy Q at the clinique counter. I love clinique as I use their make up but I always know what I need when I go there because they are never helpful when it comes to what's right for me. You could look in your area online and read reviews as well maybe?? :-)

I know its awfully cheap and gross, but Mary Kay consultants will give you free lessons. DONT BUY THE MAKE UP though.

I agree, going in to have it done helps. I splurge on certain items, know where to save on others. For powder or foundation, I like MAC or Clinique. Be sure to get your color matched professionally though, nothing worse than looking like a pumpkin or ghost . I like a kohl eyeliner, Rimmel makes an excellent one and it's cheap. I love MAC/Urban Decay eyeshadow because of the pretty and quality pigments that go a long way just by using a little. My lips I play down, and just use Nivea Milk and Honey.

Most of all, just "practice" at home, think of your face as the canvas :) I usually do my friend's makeup when we go out and it's a lot of fun.

Oh, and choose one to play up, never do 2 features at once.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
