Intense hunger 5mos after banded. What the heck?!

Recommended Posts

I was banded at the end of July 2010 and am down about 35lbs after 4 fills. Everything is/was going great 3 days ago. I have been hungry, hungry, hungry. It's just like it was right after surgery. The hunger gets stronger when I eat. What in the world is going on? I haven't been eating the best the past week or so -- the holidays, so perhaps I haven't had enough Protein? Anyone else experience this intense hunger after being banded for awhile?

hi!

there are lots of things that effect your band....it is a Fluid thing, so as you lose weight, and your body changes, or you get sick or have your cycle, yeah, the band can get tighter or looser. it sounds like you need another fill though...I would start there, and yes, get rid of your carbs, and up the Protein.

It totally sounds like you are not getting enough protien! When I did not get enough protien, the next day I would find myself hungrier than normal, and wanting to snack or graze! Just remember the golden rules......protien, protien, protien, exercise and water!

Good luck, plus now that I think about it when I fell off the protien wagon, I remember just laying on the couch all day feeling like I wanted to sleep, and had slept more than 8 hours the night before....really wierd!

Sounds like it's time for a fill. Even a very small one may make the difference. Hunger = need for a fill.

According to my surgeon: If you are eating 4 oz meals of high Protein, NOT DRINKING for 15 mins before and 60 mins after eating and you get hungry before 3-4 hours.....it's time for a fill!

I agree it could be time for a fill. Remember the closer you are to restriction fills are normally small; so don't think that you will get like 1 CC and then be two tight. It could be that you've lost weight round your stomach and now the band is lose. Remember we have fat everywhere! I've always been a musical person and in college had a vocal scholarship. I've notice as I've lost weight I absolutely have more breath support: can reach higher notes and hold them much longer. Is that a non scale victory?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
