This holidays got me, how about you????

Recommended Posts

Well I havent been on here for a litlle over a week, which is very different for me. I have been visiting everybody over these past two weeks. Since we are in Colorado and everyone in my family is in the east coast. I did go and see my mother who hasnt seen me since the day of my surgery. She says she can tell a difference. Proably more inches than weight to me but I will take any compliment coming my way. My other family has seen a difference also in me.

But on to why I am writing. I came home and have gained back 6 pounds!!!!! I dont even know how but I did. I ate different foods (which I havent been eating) but a lot LESS than ever before on any holiday break. I dont know what I did wrong. I hung out, had a great time with family but I do not like this feeling I have right now.

I know right before I left I had a lot of problems with my 1st fill which we didnt get to an approaite level til 2 days before I left. Now I am scheduled on wednesday for my 2nd fill and I'm so upset over these 6 pounds I dont know what to do. I know I need a fill because I'm hungry as hell! Will my doctor look down on me because of my weight gain?? I know its not alot but it is discouraging. I guess because I really didnt think I was being all that bad on vacation, but I guess I was.

I plan on jumping back on this horse tomorrow, actually right now!! But any words of wisdom from my lapband family would be greatly appreciated. Please somebody give me something????? I'm so worried. I want my weight to reflect how I am living and with this gain it hurts. Did any of you gain weight during the holidays? Because right now I feel very alone.

Thanks Dee

Do not despair. I have not yet been filled (banded on 11/22/10) so I can't say why you gained. I am sure that the restriction was not tight enough. Was this your first fill?

I did the same thing in the last 2 weeks -- ate small portions but more varieties of things than before so that is probably why the weight gain. I haven't yet had a fill so hopefully that will make a difference in feeling more restricted so I will eat less again -- and I will probably go back to the liquid Proteins and then mushies to get back into a more conscious eating pattern -- we still need to make the right choices (protein and veges rather than carbs) and get the exercise in -- I hope to start a better routine with going to the gym a couple times a week to start and building up -- don't fret, I'm sure with a fill and getting back on track you will start losing again -- I think we all go through this at different times and just need to get back on track. Good luck and hang in there!

It's probably Water weight and will come off as soon as you get back on track with low carbs, more Protein. I had to have an unfill at the beginning of December and I tried to be really good about portion size, but I did indulge in all the xmas foods. So now I'm getting back on track too and already can see a difference in the scale.< /p>

One problem with eating away from home is you can't always control what you have. I went to my sisters yesterday and had a very fancy Pasta casserole but it was cream based. There was fish as Protein but I'm sure I did'nt get 3 oz so I had lots of carbs and fat with little protein. And the small piece of bunt cake with ice cream did'nt help. Did I eat less than I would have presurgery yes. Did I do an hour of cardio before dinner, Yes. I had a 200 cal. brunch. I was up today 2 pounds on the scale this morning. I don't think that was real weight (that would be 7,000 extra calories for yesterday and I did'nt eat 6,800 calories at dinner!).

Oh, I got so caught up in the holidays. Then I have been home on vacaion too, which did not help that much either!! I only gained 1 lb., but that is not the idea!! I really could have tried harder. I got my first ill of 2 cc's right before XMas, and it is not helping at all. I thought I felt some restriction, but it did not last long! I go back in 3 weeks and will ask to get another fill. in the meantime, I need to refocus and will do a few days of liquids to get back on track, then move on to solids again.

We will slip from time to time, and that is just what it is, This is a long hard battle, and none of us went through all of this to be defeated!! Hang in there!!

my problem was the protien. I was eating smaller portions, but the stuff I was eating wasnt the right stuff. We moved of the holiday season, so there was a lot of restraunt food, then holiday parties, so alot of like ham rolls, turkey, ham, potatoes, mac n cheese, the list goes on. I need to get back into a routine, and start exerising, I know we can do this guys, we just gotta stay proactive.

Glad to hear I wasn't alone in losing the Holiday Battle of the bulge. I was banded on July 22nd and have stayed a constant weight for about three months but the two weeks during the holiday when I was off of work and with the kids at home I gained...7 lbs! ARRRRGGGHHHH. I do admit that I was being lazy, not tracking my food, not getting enough liquid Protein in and definitely wasn't exercising. I wrote in my blog (I use it as my journal for this lapband journey) that I am getting back on track and I even have a fitness trainer session tonight. I am determined to meet my goal weight this year and be in control of this band...and me! I'm also going to beg for a fill on my 6th month bandiversary appointment with the doctor in a couple of weeks. Glad to see you're staying positive as well! Best of luck!

You could have Water weight if the party type food you ate was salty. Do you have an exercise program? I am trying to take advantage of my current unemployment and going to the gym twice a day.

I thought the holiday’s with the band would be easy

Well no ……I ate so much less than I would normally ( I ate less that 1 slice of pizza when everyone around me was on their 3rd slice) tried to make good choices but the holiday food got me

Turkey, Ham ,cold cuts, Italian food, Chinese , Cookies , chips (not at the same time)

In addition to Christmas and new years I have my birthday on dec 30- tried to eat a time bit of steak on my birthday and ending up throwing it all up (does not taste good at all coming up

Most of the time I was ok with a couple of bites…..had a few restrictions some gagging but for the most part stopped when I thought there would be a problem.

It is so hard to eat my tiny plate….slowly when others are devouring mounds of food and drink

Always the last one at the table..wanting to eat more but unable because I knew the pain would be unbearable…found myself hungry a lot ..then would eat something bad then pain

Felt sorry for myself .mad at myself and the world and other time happy with the band

The worst part was the alcohol--- i used to like the flavored beers (lemon, lime ect) can’t drink them now because of the carbonation……even mixed drinks I like with soda so not too much to drink…mostly sober in a room full of half drunk people …not so much fun

Am having a hard time getting back to normal….miss food want to eat but know it will cause pain

Maybe I should so back to liquids for a few days and restart my system

On new years I weighed in at 209.4 --- from 230+ before surgery aug 22

its working

I know it will get better but its hard

Bad foods that go down real easy

Snapple

Lemonade

Chips

Cereal (sugary ones)

Peppermint candy canes

Cake

I have noticed that when I travel I am usually up a little and then after a few days at home there's a big drop again. I think my issues are not hydrating enough when on the road, and not eating enough Protein when I'm away from home. So your 6 lbs may not be a "true" 6 lbs. I don't know how your dr will react but a responsible dr should take the time to talk with you and find out the possible reasons for the gain and provide you with information on getting back on track.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
