What's too Young?

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Maddy and I really want the lap band surgery but I'm not sure if I'm too young. I've heard a few stories about people who have had the surgery who are my age and are fine but I'm still curious. I would have never considered this before but I've done everything to try to loose weight and I can't . My parent's are fine with it but I want to know if there's anyone out there who's got any useful information about life after. I've been teased about my weight before an one girl got detention because of what she said. Another girl I used to know asked me if I was still fat on Facebook chat and then after arguing she said "f**k you fatty" and I feel like it's only going to get worse. If any one has any useful information please let me know.

Hi Maddy, how old are you? I just got the lapband 5 weeks ago, I'm 34 but my daughter is 17 and we are looking into it for her. Our insurance won't let her until she is 18 so she will start her 6 month supervised diet in about 5 months so she is ready as soon as she turns 18. My only worry for her is that she won't follow the rules when she goes to college as she is going to go 800 miles from home. I wish you the best and hope it works out for you. Good luck!

I was 24 when I had mine done and wish I would have done it sooner.

It depends on your maturity level and if you feel you'll be able to stick to the rules to make it work.

How old are you an where do you live?

well i'm quite young compared to most of the people looking into the lap-band but my mom had a similar surgery so I know what the lap-band is about. I probably wouldn't have it done in the U.S.

Hey a young lady was at my seminar and the surgeon advised her that she needed to be at least 18 years old. How old are you?

Hi there dear! I was fourteen when I had my Lapband placed and would have to say it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only have I lost 120 pounds, but I also have kept it off. My insurance wouldn't pay for the Lapband surgery for me so my parents took out a loan and paid for it out of pocket. It was a huge investment but I can't guarantee I would still be here today if they hadn't done this for me. I am here to talk to you if you need anyone to talk to or you'd like to ask some more questions. I hope you make the decision that is best for you and only you!

Thanks that really helps because I'm only 13 and I really want to get it done and everyone one here is IME 16 or 17 or 18 at the least. So that really helps

Thanks

Sorry I'm on my phone and it has predictive text and I'm not sure where the IME came from.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
