December 2010 Bandsters out there?

Hello! I am trying to figure out this forum and how it all works so bear with me! I was banded Friday, Dec. 3rd and have about 85 lbs. to lose. Diabetes runs in my family and I felt like a time bomb and have never been able to keep the weight off. It just crept up and up. I am very active and want to be able to exercise without the aches and pains. I am 5' 10" and 55 years old. I would like to stay in touch with those of a similar situation.

I had a great experience so far and had my band done as an out pt. procedure. I was out at SAM's the very next morning and haven't had alot of pain. Today I did laundry and walked at the mall. I plan to return towork for awhile on Monday. I was fortunate to also have had it done laproscopically and had a great surgeon, Dr. David Provost. All I can say is so far so good!

i heard the stuff you drink is not soo bad and you get a better fill with this way then the other way. also the dr can ckpouch and band too !! i think I am happier that my dr is looking out for me ! i had dr marc neff in Cherryhill.

Amy

ok... I have not had any bread, cake, dough pasta.... who here eats that ? i was told it would ball up and get stuck so I havnt had any....

I eat bread, toasted though, but it goes down fine, and I have ONE normal size piece, I'm not sure if I could eat a sandwich.. and I've had a little bit of pasta, but not much (like asian type noodles). I eat quite a bit of crackers.

I mean you can have like a 1/2 a cup of pasta.. thats boring, I'd rather eat something else.

Lordy just got the insurance claim(s) for my surgery.. I think they messed it up and billed me twice :-/ my surgeon is great, but his office staff is so dumb!! Hopefully I can sort it out tomorrow *crossing my fingers*

I have only had one fill and can eat bread and pasta. I haven't ate sliced bread but toasted breads go down fine. I did however have my first stuck episode Friday. I had a cold coming on but didn't feel bad at all and took two bites of my breakfast and pain in my chest. I waited a few more hours and tried again and the worse pain ever in my chest and then I vomited. The rest of Friday and all day Saturday I stayed on liquids and soups. I basically had no restriction until I got this cold, so just a warning if you get sick be very cautious with your foods. I learned the hard way :(

Interesting....thanks for the heads up, just in case this happens to me too!

I am struggling with losing as well. I am eating about 1/3 of what I used to (which is great), but it seems like I go down 4 or 5 pounds, up to where I was, down 1 pound, up 2. Grrr....hoping I get my second fill this Thursday. I am going to Vegas on the 21st with 4 girlfriends and I don't even want to be tempted to overeat.

Doing good. I gotta eat a little less! Gosh why is it so hard? I always justify eating a little bit more. I worked my butt off at the gym this week, I'm down 1 pound so far, Monday's are my official weigh in day, so hopefully one more tomorrow!

I'm trying some variety this week, I got some turkey meatballs, hopefully those are good :)

Anyone have a good satisfying dessert / after dinner snack ideas? I eat around 6, but I stay up pretty late, I usually want something before bed. I've been having oatmeal, but I think I need to scale it back a little. Something 100 cal or under. Has anyone tired the 100 Calorie hostess snacks. I had them pre-op but haven't tried them now.. I wonder if they'd get stuck? (not having any other stuck problems though). I think that could be a good snack.

I really like the dessert flavored yogurts and the yogurt whip. They have 5 grams of protein and 100 calories or less (for the light).

I've been having the mousse pudding that's good!

I had my Dr appointment last week - still no fill. Overall, they are very happy with how much I'm eating and how much I have lost...I also got a good compliment from the PA in the office (who does the fills) - after meeting with me she smiled and said "You don't know how refreshing it is to meet someone who really 'gets' the band and knows how to work it properly. The last person I saw was just absolutely clueless!" That really made my day!:D

Also, with my weigh in this morning I am officially down 40 lbs since I started my pre-op diet and am also down another pants size!!:D :D :D

Congrats!! yes you are doing it right :D you aren't relying on the fills.

I really wish they would explain it better before surgery. I know they just want $$$ but they would have much more success if everyone knew exactly what the band does.

I completely agree with you! I think my doctor's office does a better than average job preparing patients for life after surgery but there is definatley room for improvement. Luckily, I'm one of those people who will research the heck out of any major life change so I was probably better prepared than most and, even then, I still had questions that I could only find the answer for here on LBT. I am so thankful for everyone on here who is willing to share their journeys and answer questions.

Congratulations on your weight loss Vicky, that is really great!!

Got my second fill today. She put in 1.5cc for a total of 5.5 in a 9cc band. Here's to hoping it helps with hunger between meals. :)

Congratulations!! I was hoping I'd be "that person" like you (the one who can successfully lose weight without fills). BUT, hey reality is...real. LOL. I have maintained my initial post-surgery loss of 17 pounds, but I am truly looking forward to my fill on Friday.

I have 5.5 and I have virtually no hunger, so hopefully!

I was banded on December 9th and had my first fill of 5 ccs on January 24th. I have lost 17 pounds since being banded on 12/9 and 54 pounds since I started the whole process. I felt some restriction for about 5 days after my first fill and now, not so much. I find myself eating foods that I really shouldn't be eating:( Where has my willpower gone? I too weigh myself daily and am a little obsessed with it. Luckily, I have not had any issues with food being stuck but I have not had steak, breads, rice, etc. I'm really looking forward to my second fill on the 28th. I'm ready  I really enjoy reading all of the posts and the support is much needed and appreciated. Keep up the great work everyone!!

ps- can someone tell me what I did wrong with my ticker...I can't get that thing to work - so tech unsavy!
