I am scheduled to have my lap band put in on Monday, Nov. 8. It is 2 days away and I'm experiencing so many emotions. I am excited for my lifestyle change and I know that this will really help me to lose weight. However, I'm really scared to think that some of my favorite foods, I won't be able to eat ever again...like steak, fresh baked bread, etc. Are my feelings normal? I'm afraid that if I am feeling this much anxiety about it that I won't be successful once it's placed.

What did everyone else feel like when it was close for you to get banded?

I probably felt the same as you. I was REALLY scared the night before and didn't get any sleep. I was probably mourning the loss of some foods, although to be honest, in hindsight it was silly. There are are definitely some foods that we can't eat with the band, like soda. But honestly, I don't miss it. Sometimes I can have a tiny little piece of bread (like a tiny tiny little bit). But its really helpful that I can't eat a loaf of bread - I can be satisfied with just a bite. I think many people on here eat steak. I don't have experience with it because I don't eat poultry, red meat, or pork but I don't think you'll have to give it up. Sometimes I have cravings for certain foods that I can't eat and it forces me to come up with more creative and healthy options that will satisfy the craving without getting stuck or packing on the calories. You'll be fine!!

Yes! You are feeling very normal feelings. I mourned over popcorn and cokes. I was addicted to both and now I can never have them again. Think about it........ you are mourning over food!! You need to think of how good it is gonna feel when you start having to look for smaller clothes because all of a sudden, your clothes are all too big!

Hey Bugaboo77, I know exactly how you feel. My biggest fear was from the anesthesia. I had resigned myself to never being able to eat the same way I had before. Believe me, you won't always feel deprived. I've had steak, but it just doesn't have the same thrill as before. I miss not being able to have fresh baked bread, but then again, I haven't tried it. Tonight I did have an edge piece from the cornbread I baked. It was very yummy. It will all be okay. Just remember you are doing this for yourself to be able to live a longer life. Good luck.

Um.. who told you you would never be able to eat steak, or fresh baked bread ever again?

I've never been not able to eat anything I really wanted..even with a really good fill level. Now, there are somethings I CHOOSE not to eat, but I can still eat bread (but not much now), and steak is wonderful.

When I was first banded, 20 months ago, AFTER I got through the liquid & soft foods stage...I could still eat bread, no problem at all. My nurses were surprised, but didn't tell me not to eat it.

As I have slowly gotten more Fluid in my band, bread has become less attractive to me. I really don't want it much anymore and it was mainly a conveyor for butter. LOL I can and do sometimes, nibble at the crusts when we go out to eat. Or sometimes I'll make Ezekiel bread toast to go with Breakfast.

Steak is a good Protein source. I just eat beef that is very tender and not huge servings. If we go out to eat, I'll order steak, section off what looks like about 3oz and eat that. The rest goes home in a doggie bag.

It's very common to worry about giving things up and even going through a period of grief over losing a friend. However food has not been our friend or it's been a false friend, being good tasting in our mouths, but not doing nice things for our figures.

How did I feel close to getting banded? I think I felt hopeful. I wasn't scared over surgery per se because I had had a much worse surgery for cancer a year and a half before and while no surgery is a "walk in the park".. I knew it wasn't going to be anywhere near as bad as the cancer surgery.

Good luck on your big day. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
