Help..Ive fallen off the Band wagon

Recommended Posts

:crying:Okay so I just got my 1st fill a week ago and I stay hungry like a crazy person. I just ate a 3 wing bojangles meal without flinching including the bread and french fries. I have been banded 7 weeks come this Thurs. I have not been eating like that pre op and make sure I choose wisely. Could it be the running that I do now 3 days a week thats increasing my appetite? Doc wants me back in a month and he couldnt believe as he was filling me that I was drinking the Water without feeling a thing. I said I dont feel anything. I think he got annoyed and he says well I usually give 3 CC's 1st fill. I think I shoulda had more. I am hungry every 2 hours. Feels like I cant get full. Ive eaten loads of Halloween candy Sun and Mon, Im Thirsty alot. I get my Protein in, but feels like I have a tapeworm or something. And I am not testing this band or trying to have a slip, trust me when I tell you its costing me more than I can afford right now.

Seasoned bandsters please help me. :ohmy:I am eating roughly 1000-1200 cals per day. exercising 3 to 4 days per week and generally active on other days

Hi Neenee,

I'm not familiar with BoJangles, but wings shouldn't be a big concern (unless they were fried.. not such a good choice). The bread and the french fries.. now there's part of what is keeping you hungry.

Has anyone told you about white carbs (bread, rice, Pasta, potatoes and all colors of corn) and how they can make you hungrier? These are all what are called High Glycemic Index foods. High GI foods have the ability to make your blood sugar spike, then drop it lower than before you ate. When the blood sugar drops.. your body reacts by saying.. I'm hungry.. feed me!! Try omitting these things from your eating plan, cutting way back or at least going to whole wheat versions.

I do understand.. I love good bread and it took me a while to wean myself off of it. I can have a little bit now and then, but I know if I do, the next day I'm going to be fighting hunger all over again. It's so not worth it MOST of the time.

Do some research on Glycemic Index/ Glycemic Load. It's very enlightening. There are some techniques to use to get around the blood sugar spiking and scientists are learning more about this all the time.

The candy isn't helping the situation. Ditch it or give it away. Until your resistance muscle gets a little stronger, it's just too hard to have it around.

Yes, exercise can make you feel a bit hungrier. Try having a small Protein snack after exercise. A string cheese stick, a snack size cottage cheese ..something like that.

Your doctor was wise to limit the amount of fill. While you might not feel it yet, it's not uncommon for a fill to take up to 2 weeks to make itself known. If he had filled you enough for you to feel it now and then it kicked in again in 10 days.. you'd be TOO TIGHT. Not a pleasant thing to happen at all.

I've been too tight. It's not fun to have pain with every bite that you swallow. Then you start having pb episodes. You really don't want that.

Also you should know that it may take more than one fill to achieve appetite suppression. Eat your protein and drink lots of Water and other low calorie things between meals. A small (low calorie) healthy snack that has some protein is probably ok if you can't make it between meals. Ask your doctor/nurses/nutritionist for guidance on this.

I know you're frustrated, but this is a long journey.. a marathon, not a sprint. You can do this.. we're all rooting for you. :)

Thanks so much. I am aware of GI. as I had stated I have been doing well preop and post op. I dont eat biscuits or bread etc. I buy whole wheat high Fiber flat outs and tortillas and only have them with soy nut butter and sugar free preserves. I think youre right though, me messing with candy this past wknd and other stuff just got the hunger bug going. I will be giving candy away ASAP and I need to bring lunch to work like I did yesterday, which kept me from overeating. Also I am going to probably going to cook again tonite or tomorrow which will also limit my binging. I hope what you say is true that the band may tighten after 2 weeks. I have appt with my nutritionist in the morning and I will disucss with her as well. Usually I have Snacks with no less than 5 grams Protein around house and work such as yoplait thick and creamy light yogurt, chobani, wraps, soy nut butter etc.

Well, since carbs are my specialialty, I think you need to even ditch the wraps. No carbs in your body means no carb crash two hours after you eat them. I am a carb whore! There, I admitted it. I love carbs more than anything. Once I was banded and cut the carbs out I haven't had one episode of crazy, shaky, starving I wanna binge now moments. Carbs are a powerful substance and if you stick to the Protein and veggies your body can't have that reaction.

As for the Halloween candy, toss it out and I mean outside in the trash can, not inside. Get rid of it. Don't even go there with the candy. There are about 30 little bags of M&M's and Reeses Peanut Butter cups that are calling my name, but I won't do it. I hid the kids candy bags so that they can't binge on it either. Tonight I'm tossing out a bunch of it.

This is a hard journey, but you will feel so much stronger when you can say that you walked away from the sugar and carbs.

I am feeling a little better. I met with nutritionist today and she told me to try and drink more Water, lay off the splenda and aspartame drinks and see how that goes. She also told me that it sounds like I need another fill so I got an earlier appointment for the week before thanksgiving.

My first fill was 4 cc and my second added 2 more. I had some restriction shortly after but that went away. My doctor says 3 weeks between fills I got my appointment moved so I will only be 4 weeks between fills. I am only keeping appropriate foods in my house (I live alone); but I am plateauing/gained. Though the gain may be due to TOM. I measure my food and only eat that amount. I do an hour of cardio a day so I am also feeling some frustration.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
