Dr. Anita Courcoulas - Praise for Dr Courcoulas,Staff and Magee Hosp

Recommended Posts

I was banded 9/28/10 by Dr. C and had a very good experience. Met with her prior to surgery and she spent a lot of time explaining the procedure and answering questions. Met with her and the PA day of surgery. Stay at Magee was good but ended up being in 3 days instead of overnight. My bladder does not do well with anesthesia apparently. Followed up with Bill, PA for postop check and her was also very thorough and took the time to answer all my questions. Overall a great experience. I am due to go back on Nov 12 and perhaps get my first fill.

I am waiting for approval to get surgery at Magee. Any experiences you are willing to share would be great. My surgeon is Dr. Hamad.

Thanks!

Yes - I am down to 188. It has been very slow but I am not complaining. When you have your followup ask for Bill when you get to the office. He is really good! Good luck!

Depends on your insurrance and if you had to go through the 6 months waiting period. I met with her in the beginning of August and I had my surgery Sept 28th . Once you get going it really goes fairly quickly. They have an effecient system at her office and things seem to run very smoothly. I live about 50 min from Magee and they were able to schedule all the appointments with the dietician and psych so I did not have to keep making trips. I had my bloodwork and xray taken where I live and they had me get a stress test which may not happen for you. The stress test took the longest to schedule as I saw my husband's doc. I hope this was helpful.

The pain I was having was more de to the bladder issue I had after the anesthesia. I could not urinate and when they tried taking the catheter out, I had pain from the bladder spasming and stretching. The incisions are quite small and they give you liquid pain meds so the effect is very quick when you do take them.

If you are self pay they will get you scheduled right away I'll bet.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
