Haitian decent with no family support

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm Frislaine 24 living in the Fort Lauderdale area and I'm having issues with my Parents because they do not want me to to have the surgery.I think because of where they come from surgery is like only for life and death situations. This is so hard for me because I am very private person and I don't want to tell anyone else except for my intermediate family. My finance he is also very skeptical about it also,so I'm like really alone in this process:(

Perhaps find a support group in your area? Sometimes the surgeons office can recommend a support group. You're not alone - you just need

to know where to look for some support.

You might find one on meetup.com too.

One way to look at it and explain it to your family....

If you are obese enough to qualify for weightloss surgery, it is a life or death situation. There are so many health risks with obesity. It could cause you an early death. My father died from his obesity.

Yes, I agree with explaining to them that it is a life and death situation. Obesity can lead to so many diseases! I had this surgery because I want to live a long and healthy life and if I have children to be able to see my grandchildren grow up! My mother died when I was 27 years old from cancer. She was overweight also. Not saying that skinny people can't get cancer but your chances are lower and if they do get it and they are healthier and work out their chances of surviving is much higher than someone that is obese and not healthy. Hopefully, I can live past my 50's with this new change! I hope that you find a support group that you can participate in!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
