Did you lose lbs on the pre-op, and did it stay off post-op?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have lost about ten pounds in the first week of my pre-op liquids only diet and have two more weeks to go..projecting I will lose at least 20lbs before surgery on Nov. 10. (also have been doing 45 minutes on the elliptical every day).

I am hoping to keep this weight off post surgery, has anyone had this great pre-op weight loss but then put it back on once they start eating solid foods post-op? Or will it really stay off?! I am of course hoping it is permanent because I am already feeling better :blushing:

Thanks!

I didn't do a pre-op diet, infact I pigged out on many "last meals" (last mcdonalds, last mexican et...). I lost weight steadily in the first weeks post-op., even when I went to solid food. However, I have read on this forum of people gaining a few pounds when they move to solids. If you do gain a few back, I wouldn't worry about it. The first weeks post op. are for healing, any weight loss is a bonus. Congrats on your upcoming surgery, keep us posted on how your doing.

I lost about 6-7 kgs before surgery. I've kept it off and am now up to 12kgs!

You see all sorts of things happening on this forum. I lost 10 on the pre op diet, and another 10 post op diet. I have a strict surgeon and basically liquids for 3-4 wks post op. It has been 6 months and I've lost a total of 30lbs+ since surgery. Bandster hell is where things slow down, its waiting the months for the appropriate amount of fill- so basically any weight loss is from sticking it out and exercising like heck. I'm 6 months out with 7cc and just probably in the green zone. Everyone's program is different. Some get lots of cc's right away. I get one a month if that. I can loose 1 lb a week steadily and I am an exercise fiend. Dr says now that I'm closer to goal and fit, things will probably slow down. I still have 40+ to go.

I was on a two week liquid diet for my pre-op diet. I lost 16 pounds. A month after my surgery I lost like 1.5 lbs, but I never gained it back. Don't worry about gaining it back. I don't think you can gain a lot of weight back unless you go hog wild with bad food choices, but I could be wrong... :blushing:

I lost about 17 pounds during that pre op diet. I kept it off and after surgery have continued to steadily shed the pounds.

I hit a slowing point about two weeks ago, but got my first fill last week and it seemed to kick everything back into gear along with my new exercise regimen :blushing:

Good luck!

I lost 35 lbs pre-op and kept right on losing post-op. I've stalled a couple times, but haven't ever gained.

I lost 19 lbs from the time of my first appt and surgery and then lost another 15 right after surgery. I had my two week appointment where I was allowed to eat food again and now 4 weeks after that I have lost 7 more lbs.

I get my first fill tomorrow so I am hoping it doesn't stall again (even though I do need to get it in my head that 7 lbs in one month is just fine).

I lost weight pre-op and have continued to lose, never gaining any back.

It can be tough, especially once you're body heals after surgery, and before you get a fill, but if you stick it out and be strong, you can get through it and keep losing weight.

I lost 11 lbs in pre-op diet and then week to ten days after surgery I had lost another 14lbs. But now, I'm at 3.5 weeks post surgery and still just holding at my 25lb loss. I'm thrilled I haven't gained it back, but I would love to see some more gone! My appetite is back to normal, I dont' feel any restriction. The one really good thing is that I'm not hungry between meals like I had been pre-band. I'm sure that is assisting in me not gaining back the 25 I lost. I'm still eating less at my meals than I had pre-band, but way more than I would like to. I'm looking forward to my first fill in 2.5 weeks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
