Newly banded is this feeling in my throat normal?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded for 5 days now. throughout the day I am fine. But @ night is when I feel like I have a lump in my throat. It feels like I have to throw up. Now I am still on liquids so I barely have anything to throw up. could this be a bad sign of a esophagas problem? If so can this be treated while keeping the band? I can hardly sleep @ night and cant imagine how I will feel once I start getting fills and eating food. So I need to see whats going on now. I am just a ball of emotions right now. This site has really helped me throughout my journey. Thank you all!!

It may be that you are having a bit of reflux which is important to be aware of. If this is a feeling of fullness in your throat, it may be a sign that some acid is causing the area to swell a bit. I have had this before (although not from being banded). Call your Dr. and let them know. Ii don't know how they treat it if it is caused by the band so early on. Later, it is a sign that you may be too tight and here it may just be a sign that you have significant swelling from the surgery. This sight is a great source of help but you should always check things like this out with your Dr. Best of luck to you.

Hello :-)

For days after I had my band I couldn't lay flat - I had the same problem as you but it was a little bit lower. It was driving me crazy but it eventually worked out. If it's so bad that you can't breath, I suggest seeing a doctor. If it's something that feels like it might go away, maybe wait it out to see if it gets better.

All the best, I hope you feel better soon!

Edit: If you're really worried maybe try to get a CT scan to check for blood clots.

Thanks for responding. I do only get it @ night and it does seem to get better if I am propped up with a bunch of pillows. But I will call my doctor first thing in the morning just to make sure everything is ok.

I was banded on Tuesday and last night was the first time that I slept in my bed for a few hours. I tried it the first night and just had this incredible pressure in my chest. I have rested very well in the recliner, but last night I woke up around 3:00 and decided to try the bed again. I slept so good that I actually woke up laying on my stomach this morning - which kind of freaked me out. I'm not in any pain, so I guess I didn't hurt anything. I really think my problem was gas, but I would check with your Dr. just to be sure.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
