Nervous about telling friends/family that I want surgery

I have thought long and hard and have decided that I want to have the surgery. But I am terrified about what people are going to think. (I know, I shouldn't be) I would love to drive myself to the hospital, have the surgery, and not tell anyone about it! I know that nobody will think it's a bad thing, but I don't want anyone to think I am taking the easy way out. Because this is definitely not the easy way,it is my last resort. Anyone else have this problem before they had surgery? I don't even want to tell my mom, and she is like my best friend! :)

I understand what you are saying. I got banded Aug 16th and did not tell a single soul and STILL haven't. I just didn't want to tell anybody, simple as that. I guess I'm a little stubborn and independant that way, I always have been. I come from a large family - 5 brothers - no sisters, and we are all pretty close. I live in a different city than my family so it was a little easier to hide, lol.

I took a cab to the hospital, and took a cab home 6 hours later. Stocked up on everything i needed ahead of time, and never looked back since and have been 100% fine. I really wanted to tell my best friend, but I kinda like the fact that i have my little secret that belongs to ME...it's MY body after all. I am proud of myself...the first time in a while.

Everybody is different, and so is their journey. But I just wanted to give you an example of somebody who did this all on their own and is absolutely fine. I am down 45lbs so far and couldn't be happier. When I have a problem, a question, or need to vent...I come here! There are so many wonderful ppl on here that have "been there, done that" and aren't afraid to answer embarrising questions, or can give you some awesome words of encouragement. Thank you to everyone that has helped me so far!!!

Good Luck on whatever you decide to do, and I look forward to seeing you on here!

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY. I TOTALLY GET WHAT YOU MEAN. BESIDES THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE WHO SWEAR THEIR DEVOTED LOVE, BUT WHO WOULD BE THE FIRST TO SABATOGE YOU THE FIRST DAY YOU FELL OFF THE PROVERBIAL FOOD WAGON.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO GET ONE OF THOSE TRACKERS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ONE ON MY PAGE?

I've told everyone near and dear to me. I want their support. I am proud of making this difficult decision to better my health.

It's nice to know everyone feels the same way on this subject. I haven't had surgery yet. Waiting for insurance approval. But I feel very private about this decision too. I asked my husband not to tell his family. None of them have ever had weight issues. And my in laws would be frightened by the procedure. And as far as my co workers... I don't want to be watched like a science experiment. "What is she eating... how much weight has she lost... All she had to do is go to the gym and exercise!" I , like many of you - I am looking for a better life. Help out of my obesity state; this jail sentence. That NO ONE can understand unless you have been there. I just found this site and look forward to your support as I take this journey.
