January 2011 Bandsters !!!

If you're planning on being banded in January your either half way thru your 6 month wait or you've just recently met with your surgeon and you're beginning your 3 month wait filled with dr appts and nutrition classes.

I have aetna and I only have to wait three months but it'll be filled jam packed w/ dr appts and classes, etc...

I went to see a pulmonologist last week and he wants me to get a breathing test, chest x-ray and sleep study. Saw the GI yesterday and my endoscopy is set for 11/5 and my cardiologist is Friday - can't wait to see what HE has in store for me - haha --- I'm actually excited to get this "work up of the stars" --- how many others are thankful for all these tests (cause when else would we get them done??)

My BMI is under 40 and my last two years worth of weights was around a 35 but I have diabetes and high triglicerides...hoping that this is acceptable for aetna approval cause I'm gaining and not losing no matter what I do - I presently need to lose 80-90 pounds and there is no way I could do it on my own with the diabetes and hypo-thyroidism.

I'm curious to know who is getting banded in January (My surgery date is 1/18/11 if approved). I'd love to hear your stories and concerns - anything at all --- just want to put together a group for those that are planning a new life style come January - I can't think of a better new years resolution!!!! ~Renee

  • Hello fellow January Banders!! Looks like I might be one of the first ones in this group to become banded as my date of surgery is January 4th!! Yikes!!! I now only have 4 days left of my pre-op diet

  • I am also on my preop diet.....What wonderful words of encouragement....I sooooo want to cheat...

  • Yes, it was so hard to not cheat. But hang in there as it gets easier. Today is my last day of the pre-op diet - getting banded tomorrow (yea!) and even last night I had to finally go to bed because

So i was banded yesterday the 25th! After surgery i woke up in recovery and was just in a lot of pain! As the day went on the gas was pretty intense it almost takes my breath away when i get a gas pocket. The surgical sight is just very sore and a tight feeling in my stomach like I did one to many crunches. Im hoping the gas and tightness gets better as the days go on. Any thoughts on the first few days after the surgery?

Hi Justine!

I'm not being banded until Friday, but I wanted to check in with a 'fresh band'... and that's YOU!!

Good to hear you made it to the other side :D

Sorry the pain was/is rough... that's not something I look forward to

:o

Did you spend the night at the hospital??? I'm planning on coming home, but I don't know how often it is that an overnight stay is necessary....

my dr. ordered me to stay overnight, the pain about 24hrs later is better than it was yesterday The gas is pretty rough but it seems to be getting better, good luck on friday! Any questions let me know and keep me posted how ur day goes!

Hi guys! I'm doing great! No pain. Although the gas pain was really bad when I first woke up. I got up and walked a couple times and that did the trick. Just wanted to update you!

three cheers for amber!!!

let us know how the 'clear liquids' are coming along

I was banded yesterday and am feeling great. There were 5 of us at the hospital all getting the procedure done and everyone seemed good with the pain etc. We were talking in the hallway waiting for our barium swallows. Anyway, surgery was pretty easy. I don't remember the operating room or the recovery room really. I did have pain and told her (I vaguely remember this) I was a 6 in pain. After recovery went to my room (I was staying overnight) and was settled in. Didn't sleep much due to the constant monitoring of blood pressure, meds. Came home today about about 9am. Been taking my roxicet and have now broken out in a rash. Hot itchy rash. Called the doc, he said to stop the roxicet and start on a tylenol/advil combination (2 tsp each). Benedryl for the allergic reaction. So my sweet hubby went out and got all meds. HOwever every freakign store closes at 10 and he went out at 10 to 10, so he got to one store before it closed. Called me to ask wehre the nearest 24 hour place was. They were out of all benedryl except the liquid tablets. Nothing liquid or melting. So I had to skip that. So I sit here itching and waiting for this to go away. Every 4 hours I start to have pain. So am hoping that the tylenol/advil will work as well as the roxicet did (minus the rash of course). The gas pain was bad earlier, but I fell asleep with a heating pad and it has been pretty much gone.

The great news is that I havent felt hungry all day. I am drinking tons of Water, some apple juice and had a 1/2 cup of chicken broth, but otherewise, just keep forgetting that I should eat. The doc did say I was "pretty snug" so that is likely why. I expect this period of "yes!" to go away with the swelling. Hope all is well with the others that banded with me yesterday! Talk you soon.

I want this to be me on Saturday =) Glad to hear you are doing so well!!

Congrats to everyone that has been banded the last few days.

I am a week post op and it has been actually pretty easy for me. Yes I was sore, but never really any pain. However I do have a very high pain tolerance. The gas was rough for a few days. I say anyone getting banded.... WALK WALK WALK as much as you can. I walked tons and tons and I think that is why I did so well. I go tomorrow to have my staples removed, thank goodness. Than I will see how my weight has done. Hoping to graduate to some mushy foods, because the liquids are getting old.

Again Good luck everyone I hope you have a great journey!!!

I feel like one of the last ones to be banded this month lol.

Im glad I read your stories and thank you so much for sharing. I do believe reading them is a blessing but a curse for me. Im scared beyond belief but at least Im fully aware of the worst case normal scenerios, more of an idea what is ok and what is not normal. I spend tomorrow packing, getting last minute items, etc. and then leave at 3am and from there...my journey begins. As my facilitator said to me today "Tomorrow you are one day closer to a whole new you"!

Hi ravendays!

I'm right there with you! I'm a 'first case', so I'm checking in at 630am.

Hope all goes well with you... see you back here soon!!!

Good luck Raven and Carollee! You both will be fine. I'm a bit sore today, I think because all the "good" meds have been used up. I'm now just taking tylenol. It's not really pain it's more just soreness. Too many sit ups kind of sore. I can feel how snug I am because when I take sips of water I can feel it go down. I think I'll be one of those that in the mornings wake up snug. It's not as tight now. Warm tea (not hot), chicken broth and water today. I have gas bubbles in my tummy and every time they try to go up for a burp that hurts something fierce. But it goes back down and now I feel it working the other direction. Yay! How weird that I would rather,...well you get the picture. The stomach cavity gas is still there, but I can usually alleviate it with a heating pad and walking around. So day 2 post op and I'm still feeling great. See you too on this side very soon!

I was banded on tuesday, do u feel any growling in your stomach?

Thanks for the pep talk, metime!!!

I've been really brave and pumped all week... but today... not so much

I went out today to pick up a few *sugar free popsicle items... yum

:P

I get nervous that I'm going to freak out on the Clear liquids... how pathetic :(

Now to finish the house cleaning... this will be the last for quite a while :D

Hi all!

I have been lurking on these boards for a few weeks, but I figured I might as well say hello since my surgery is TOMORROW with Dr. Kelly in TJ Mexico. I am both excited and nervous. I've been reading so much really good and really bad stories that I have convinced myself that I'm either gonna feel no pain or have some crazy complication. lol. It's so nice to have a place to get support. I am a 25 year old master's student and I just got engaged and this is a great time for me start this journey! Wish me luck.... :)
