The day of my surgery the only thing that was a hassle (esp for my family waiting at the hospital) was that my doctor called to move up my surgery by an hour. Something must have happened in an earlier surgery because my surgery was about 4 hour late. I was told I would be given a relaxation shot prior to surgery. Only problem was they would not give me the shot until I met with the surgeon. So I lay in the preop area for 4 hours stressing out with my mother sitting there. By that point I was now pretty hungry since I had'nt eaten since the day before.

Post surgery I did really well. My doctor does not do catheters so I was up every 30 minutes going to the bathroom.

If at all possible I would try to exit the hospital bed from the side opposite of where your port is located. I was on pain meds only overnight and the next morning it was hurting to get up to use the bathroom. But I would say even on no med/tylenol it was about a 3 on a scale of 1-10.

I had no pain sitting or once laying down; and no pain after standing.

I also had no gas pain.

My first couple nights after the surgery I was up several times in the night to use the bathroom. I was after all on a liquid diet.

Friday - First day home took naps on the couch.

Saturday- Rested in morning, afternoon went to several stores short walks (my mother drove)

Sunday Drove with my mother to her house for the day (1.5 hours each way) Rested Went outside visited with family

Mon.- Back to the gym! Treadmill about 40 minutes no incline.

There are a lot of stories of people who had pain so that was stressing me out. I am allergic to morphine, codein, etc so I am unable to take commonly used perscription pain killers. I don't know if I was just lucky or have a high pain tolerance but the surgery pain was really not bad.

I have a back problem that when it goes out is 100 times more painful than my incisions were.

Hi Cortney !

I had my surgery last Wednesday the 7th and I am pretty much back at 98-99% normal. I am 5 days Post Op and the only thing different in me is that I am a lot lighter and have a little sensitivity at my Port which is located just above my belly button.

>> Pain and Discomfort during Surgery << Basically zero. You will be knocked out and won't feel a thing. You will be wheeled into the O.R. and then wake up groggy without knowing or feeling a thing.

Immediately Post Op I felt severely groggy and sleepy and had to sleep about 4 hours to wear off the anesthesia but then I was hopped up on pain meds so I felt about 90-95% normal. The day after I let the pain meds wear off and I haven't taken any since - I felt about 80% good. I had soreness at the Port and the Tummy ( they inflate your tummy w/ gas so they can operate ). By day 3 I was back at 90% and Day 4 -98-99% back to normal.

My experience might be different then yours.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
