hiatal hernia repair and banded together

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if the hiatal hernia repair is what is making it difficult for me to take deep breaths or if it was just the surgery in general? I'm using my incentive spirometer an getting to about 2000-2250 most of the time. In the mornings Im around 1000-1500. I've been walking like crazy and overall feeling pretty great! I was banded yesterday at 8am... took 2 percocet at bed time and that's been it. I took a tylenol today so far. I'll probably do percocet at bedtime again. I've not felt like eating/drinking much at all and I've started burping/passing gas so I am hoping that will all be out of me soon. Any tips??

I was banded on Monday and had my Hiatal Hernia repaired as well and am having abdominal pain while breathing. I assume it's the hernia repair that's making it harder to breath. Water and deep breathing seem to help along with stretching. Good for you for using the spirometer. I am averaging about 1000-1500 in the morning and 2500 at my peak in the afternoon. I rarely use that thing, I need to use it more.

I was banded on Monday too and also had a hiatal hernia repair. I am feeling the same way you two are feeling.

Ok, phew. Glad it's not just me! I had no idea I had a hiatal hernia going into it and I had asked him to take copies of pictures for me before hand... I'm glad I did now that I had that done too  This afternoon I feel very sleepy but cannot get comfortable to sleep. I just took a percocet so that should help. I keep pushing myself though b/c I am afraid of getting blood clots or pneumonia... paranoid nurse here lol

I was banded last Wednesday and had a hiatal hernia too. It took me at least 4 days to feel good, the other days were okay, but I had a lot of gas pains and I had pain from the surgery. If you had surgery yesterday and Monday, give yourself time to heal and get a lot of rest. I couldn't do much but get my fluids in. Gas X strips help for the gas, and I also used a heating pad on my stomach, it usually took away the pain. I also would put a couple of pillows on my bed and bend over the bed with my head on the pillows and feet on the ground. They usually made me burp and I felt better! I also slept on the couch during that time and proped myself up with pillows. Good luck to all of you! It's 8 days later and I feel almost back to normal, just a little achy still from the incisions, but everything else is gravy! LOL!

last night and today I slept with a pillow kind of supporting my belly. Anytime my belly jiggles it bothers me lol. So I thought of how we tell pregnant women to support their bellies with pillows and it helped!!! By the end of the night I was pretty comfy sleeping on my side as I usually do. I have a hard time sleeping any other way! I start a new job on Monday but it is all classroom stuff the first 2 weeks so I think I'll be okay. I feel like I am doing great for it only being one day after surgery but was just curious how others are feeling. I think I have a little more trauma also because he only used 2 incisions (navel and next to it). The second incision is very small too. My mom just came into town to "take care of me"

Wow 2 incisions that is great. I have 4 very small ones and one longer one. I had surgery Monday also. Today I was able to move around pretty well. Still have gas in shoulder and can feel port pulling when I move a certain way. doc said that is from the muscles attaching to port. I still am not really eating much. not hungry thank god. im drinking my Protein and Water through out day. although i did get down a wonderful pudding sf cup today. so far so good.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
