August Rush in bandland!

Recommended Posts

Hey august bandsters-

I don't come her often (i should though!) and i haven't been here in a while but i just wanted to ask...is anyone else as frustrated with this as i am ???

I have had FOUR fills! I was banded August 4th - and i am STILL not getting full....i don't get it. I get stuck WAY too often so i'm trying really hard to eat slower and chew more. But i'm not noticing the amount of food changing. I'm still hungry so often! I can't drink these damn shakes anymore either!

This whole process is making me feel so depressed. I feel so disappointed in myself AND in the band.

I have lost a total of 29 lbs. (11 of that the week before and week after surgery ) 18 lbs in 4 months! that's it!! I wasn't looking for a quick fix but people who know i have this make me feel inadequate, like i must be eating ALL wrong cause i had weight loss surgery so i should be skinny already. It's REALLY getting to me and my emotions :(

Any words of wisdom?

Just checking in after some time and wanted to update any of you who were interested. I think it's been nice to have this thread to come back and compare to.

Anyways, I am 39 down but have been stuck there for about a month. I have come to realize that I need another fill and I need to step up the exercising. I have not been consistent in that. I also notice that it is way to easy to snack on chips or add another glass of wine. Both of which sabotage my efforts.

However, I am still ecstatic to have lost so much. A close girlfriend goes in for the same surgery in the a.m. I hope her the same success, or better, than I have had so far!

So after 7 fills and still feeling very hungry / almost sick at times of being hungry (not increase my food intake even with being hungry) my PA checked my Fluid levels. I should have been at 5cc's and when she pulled out the saline, I was just over 1cc. I had to go in for a flouscopy last week and thankfully, they saw no leak in the band. SO, they put in 2.5 cc's last week and went in yesterday for a fluid check. I was just over 1 cc. So, I have a port leak. I can't believe I've lost what I have in my 8/3 surgery without basically any restriction. I barely eat more than 850 calories a day and I exercise a lot. I do get really hungry, but do not snack. I am just glad they figured out I had a leak. I just kept telling myself that I just wasn't at my sweet spot yet and I will get there. SO, waiting for the approval through insurance for the port replacement and they are hoping to get my in the week of New Years. It's a 20-30 minute procedure with local anesthesia. SO ready for the hunger to go away and see how the band is suppose to be working with me and me not fighting for it to work.

Jamelyn,

so sorry to hear about your troubles. Glad they found out the problem.

Now on a bright note, you are doing great! My hats off to you, doing it all on sheer will power! I hope you stay focused while you begin to get the real restriction that this tool can give you....don't give up! Have a Merry Christmas, and count your 42 pound loss as a blessing! Good luck and hang in there!

~Kelly~

P.S. I have only lost a few more pounds than you have so you ARE doing great!:D

I am at 9cc in my 11cc band and still have no restriction. Totally depressing. I have lost 22lbs since surgery, and 5 of that was on the pre-op diet.

Just think that those 22 lbs are never to be seen again pounds!!! I was banded in august and have lost 23lbs so I rejoice every ounce lost.

Just remember this time of the year we usually gain instead of lose so count that as a blessing as well...Good luck and Happy Holidays!

Oh wow! You really are doing awesome then! I hope your port replacement goes well and doesn't hurt.

Have they checked to make sure you really have 9cc's in there and you don't have a leak?

I'm finally losing again. I've always had depression and for me a big part of weight loss is mental/emotional. I'm at 6 cc's now and I don't have restriction and I've been gaining and not losing. My family doc finally added Wellbutrin to the Prozac I'm already taking and now my mind is better, I'm happy, energetic and focused again. I'm still hungry I just don't eat now where I was eating constantly.

Hello! Hope I can join in on this board. I was banded 8/12/10. My starting weight was 240 lbs, and I'm sitting at 200 lbs right now. I hope to reach my goal of 160 by May right before my sisters wedding. I currently have 7cc in a 10cc band, but I'm going in tomorrow to have a little taken out. The fill I had last week was too much and I'm having a hard time getting cottage cheese to go down.

Hope to chat with everyone on here!!

-Tanya

I just got home from my doctors appointment. He said that the pain by my port is probably from exercising. He added a 1/2 cc in my band and said that I have 1 1/2 ccs in my 10 cc band. Thats it!! I thought I already had 1 1/2 ccs in my band from my last fill...guess not :(( I had surgery in August and thought that he would of filled it more. He said my next fill will be in 6 months after I loose another 30 pounds!! I am fustrated, but I have to say he showed me a picture that is in my records that they took before my surgery, and its amazing how much I have toned up and lost!! It makes me feel really good :)) I exercise everyday and the doc said I am toning and turning the fat into muscle and you can really see it in the picture. So that makes me feel good :)) I just wish I could of had a bigger fill. If anyone is fustrated like I was you should find a picture of yourself before surgery and just take a look at it and see the difference from then to now. It does make ya feel good :)) I am down 40 pounds and seeing that picture just confirmed how good I really am doing even though its coming off slow.

Hope everyone is doing good :))

Julie- I'd be frustrated as well only having that much in my band this far out. And whats the reasoning they only give you fills 6 months out? I have 7cc in a 10cc band and have had 4 fills already. I understand why they only do 1/2cc at a time, but I would have thought they'd want to do it more often than 6 months. Congrats on the 40 lbs though!!

It's been a minute, but I am doing well. Much better than I thought especially with the holidays. Down 46 lbs. Wooohoo! I have not been sticking to a strict regimen, but eating less and being more active seems to be working. I was at a bit of plateau a month ago, but got a fill back in November and lost about 8 lbs. Decided not to get a fill this time so we will see how it goes, especially when I start to exercise more. Happy Holidays to everyone and I hope we all meet our goals in 2011--Its going to be a great year!

Hoping everyone had a great Christmas. I ate a little of what ever i wanted and i enjoyed it. I am up 1/2 kilo today but it was worth it. Off for a big walk later, that 1/2 kilo will soon be gone.

Next challenge - New Year!

Cheers everyone.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
