August Rush in bandland!

Recommended Posts

Hey all -- newbie here to the group. I was banded on Aug 11th and am so excited about the changes going on! I've felt pretty good -- gas pains in my side and lots of burping, but getting along on my full liquid diet and not wanting too much more (though other foods do smell good!). Back at work today and it's going ok. Just trying to get through the mental aspect of a whole new life for myself ... quite the change. You all are great resources and I enjoy reading about your successes. Looking forward to taking this journey with you all!!

I wish I knew! I am 6 days post op and yesterday and today my stomach has been full of pressure. I'm assuming it is still swelling and gas, but I'm not sure. It feels likes I'm 9 months pregnant with all the pressure and full feeling! Otherwise it sounds like most everyone is doing great with their surgeries! I love reading all the progress being made!

I am new to the boards. I had my surgery on the 12th. I'm a bit worried that I am having such a hard time drinking liquids (broth, Protein shakes, beverages) without always burping. They are not quiet burps, but loud. I'm not sure if this is normal. As for food, I am food is not appealing to me yet. I hope it will be soon.

I'm trying my best to keep my vitimen and Protein count at a normal level though I don't think I've been successful. When should I worry?

An inquiring mind would like to know,

PamS

I am also burping a lot when I put anything into my stomach. It is not very ladylike but it sure feels good!! lol!

I had tuna and mayo mixed in a blender (2oz) and 1/4 cup of cottage cheese mixed with low fat milk in a blender. They tasted pretty good. Didn't care for the texture, but put the leftovers in the refrig, I'll try a little each day. I took very small bites and still chewed to make sure it would be okay, I was nervous at first. I stopped before I was even done with either and thought I would have Jello or some mashed banana, but I honestly didn't feel I needed either. I just think I'll stick with mainly shakes. You are lucky with no gas pains, that's really the major pain I have, it's not in my shoulder, it's right in my stomach and I have to bend over the bed to release it. My husband pounded on my back today while I was bent over, and I can't believe how much it helped, it was like burping a baby!

I found that doing the stairs made my gas move and I was able to get rid of it.

I have been so happy not being hungry! I don't want to go to bandster hell! I have three weeks of post op liquids before I even get mushies. The first week hasn't been bad but you girls are making me afraid for the next two weeks!

I moved to soft foods today so I had a baked potato and some green Beans. It felt so good to actualy be able to chew something even if it was soft.

OMG, that sounds wonderful! I start mushies on Wednesday. What did you do for mushies?

Im not sure what your doctor is considering mushies. I had a pureed stage which was basically anything that I theoretically could drink through a straw. Although there were some things I ate that didnt fit that bill. I did thinned down mashed potatoes, refried Beans, cream of wheat with s/f maple Syrup and splenda, and then of course Soups and Protein shakes.

Again, I'm so confused about all of the different stages we are all going through. I can have 2 blended meals a day and I'm behind most of you, I almost feel guilty!

Today I had scambled eggs for Breakfast, which were delicious...I think anything other than a chocolate low carb Protein shake would be delicious at this point. For dinner I had mash potatoes with fat free gravy and chicken. I KNOW...why can I eat this and some of you can't. It was sooooo yummy, I encourage all of you to eat it as a first meal. You can buy the cans of chicken (in the tuna aisle) or just cook chicken in a slow cooker, it has to be really soft. I made my bites tiny, almost like feeding a baby, and it took me about 15 minutes to each a very small portion, but I was happy to taste food! Now that I'm adding a little food, I'm finding the scale is moving, probably because I wasn't eating enough for the first 4 days! Good luck to all of us on this journey, the next few weeks are going to be hard until we really recover from the aches and pains of the surgery and get our butts moving more!

Lap2Fab:

You should feel guilty. lol. Just kidding. Every doctor is different as you can see reading the posts. Sometimes I wish I had yours just so I can start to eat. What I would do to have some scrambled eggs right now. I still have 1 week left on liquids and then 2 weeks on mushies.

You are so lucky!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
