Do you need an unfill if you get a tummy tuck?

Recommended Posts

Well the title pretty much asks it. I'm just looking into getting a Tummy Tuck myself and I'm worried about getting an unfill/gaining etc.

Hi:

I got a complete unfill the day before my Tummy Tuck and got refilled about 3 weeks after tummy tuck. Didn't gain then. I had so much nausea after tummy tuck that it would have been a problem if I hadn't been unfilled.

Best wishes to you.

Sue

Was this recommended Sue or was it of your own accord?

I wasn't even thinking about this but it is a great question.

well I know after I got the lap band for the first day or two I didn't have an appetite but I had an appetite quickly. I know it sounds horrible that I'm so dependent on my band but I could do some serious damage if I had a complete unfill for 3 weeks...even with having nausea.

I wasn't even thinking about this but it is a great question.

I discussed it with both the plastic surgeon and my lapband surgeon and they both agreed that it was best for me based on my nausea issues after anesthesia. I had dry heaves for the first 12 hours after Tummy Tuck. Horrible when you've just had your belly cut wide open! I'm sure there's swelling near the band after tummy tuck because I think my entire abdomen swelled for quite a while after the tummy tuck. All worth it though!

I had a revised port put in by LB surgeon during TT. During this time he took out 2cc from my band. 3 weeks later they refilled me.

It seems like so many other things...completely dependant on what your Dr requires.

The surgeon I used for my TT insisted that I be completely un-filled prior to surgery because of the possibility of vomiting after surgery.

I am also 1 that kept my band fairly tight and on occasion had problems taking pills. Between the antibiotics, pain meds, stool softeners and laxitives (pain meds are terrible for constipation!!!) I have taken more pills in the last 2 weeks than I have in the last 2 years. Had I not been unfilled I could very well have had problems with some of them.

Another thing that I thought about....protien is very important in healing so I've actually been pleased the last couple of weeks that I have been able to eat good, solid protien without any issues.

My band Dr has offered to fill me any time I'm ready so I will probably book for a small fill in the next week or 2.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
