Looking for friends who are about to be banded. Anyone in NYC?

Recommended Posts

Hi!!! I just joined this site today and what a great resource this is!! I am 31 years old and live in NYC. I am being banded on June 9th- a week from today!! I started the pre-op liquid diet on Monday and I am having such a hard time with it--Im so hungry lol. Anyway, I thought I would see if there was anyone out there who is being banded around the same time that would want to be email buddies. It would be great to have a friend who is going through the same thing and we could be a good support system for each other. Also--is anyone in the NYC area and being banded in the future or have been banded recently?

Hope to hear from you all soon:)

Danielle

I have had success with my band, and it hasn't been too bad. I do have to diet to lose weight and the last 15 pounds are coming off at about 1 pound every frickin 10 days but they are coming off so I am not complaining.

Stick with your pre op diet its very important for your safety during surgery and I am a firm believer in strictly following the post op diet as well. I think it helps "settle" the band in place. I tried to look at it as a month of sacrifice to gain a lifetime of being thin. But it was hard so I do sympathize with you.

Try and manage your expectations for the band, I didn't start losing until I started getting fills 6 weeks after surgery. Just focus on learning the eating rules for those first weeks and then after you start getting fills, start trying to lose.

Congratulations, again.

Hi There!

While I don't live in NYC, I do live in NJ, right across the River. My surgery date is June 30th and I'm nervous, excited, etc. If you want to start a support email rapport, I'd be happy to do so!

Good Luck and keep on the right track - we CAN do this.:Dancing_biggrin:

NJ is close-yes it would be great to chat with you. I will be banded a few weeks before you so I will let you know how it goes! When do you start your pre-op liquid diet? ?I am on it right now and let me tell you--it is much harder than I imagined:( But it will all be worth it in the end! I am so excited:)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
