did anyone else or is anyone else scared?

it's almost 12.30 tuesday night, i go in thursday afternoon and i can't sleep already.

i can't imagine what i'm going to be doing this time tomorrow night - prob pacing the floor.

i'm getting scared.

the last time i had surgery i was ohhhhhhhh 22 23 and i remember being scared then too. what if i don't wake up (well nothing to me but for my daughter) what if something happens during, like they make a mistake, or i wake up

i know i'll be fine but i'm still getting scared.:w00t::)

Sorry Kurby, I think I freaked you out with my own freak out:) You know what I think, here only 11 hours from my surgery? I think that if you are a serious, intelligent and dependable? is that the word? kind of a person then you are really going to weigh these things and think them out over and over.

I honestly think that is what most of us lap-banders (or lap-banders to be) are. We are doing this to take control of our lives. We are doing this to prevent WORSE health issues. We are doing this to extend our lives and make them ever so much better or the people we have in them.

I can't make you not be scared, but I can tell you that I am absolutely sure that this is the best decision I have made for myself and my family in a very long time.

I am showing them how to live. At least, that is what I hope. Good night Kurby. Get some sleep, you have a big day coming up.

hi jen,

no it's nothing you said - as you can see it's now almost 2.30 and i'm still awake. i can't sleep.< /p>

rational or irrational i have deep fears of not waking up after surgery even though nothing has ever happened the 2 times i've been under.

i have no idea where it comes from - maybe the same place that makes me watch mayday before i'm due to get on a plane. (i'm a horrible flyer - well take off and landing. i'm fantastic during cruising :) )

All kinds of stuff plays through my mind. i guess i've watched too many medical shows in the past.

my rational brain says - it'll be fine but my irrational side is the one keeping me up tonight.

I'm in that same boat too Kurby. I feel like I'm going to be that one that dies on the table or have a stroke or heart attack.

When I went for my pre-op on Monday they said we shouldn't worry about that , that's what all this pesky testing is about to eliminate all types of unforeseen problems.

I still worry though and I probably won't relax until I'm back at home in my bed feeling like myself.

I'm glad when they send you home you have some good meds because I'm going to need the rest. I probably won't be sleeping well from now and my surgery is on the 16th.

I drove to my PCP today for an 11:oo appt only to find that my appt is at 1 . They weren't even open. I had to drive back home so the frustration is already setting in. I hate driving :)

We'll be OK.

I made it through. I'm banded. Had a really long day. Had some bad gas pains around my rib cage but walking has helped. I still have a foggy brain from the drugs. Otherwise, I'm doing well. No pain other than gas. I'll write more later.

That's exactly what i'm talking about. i must have hugged my daughter a hundred times today. she's very emotional when it comes to me - if i get a hang nail she's all worried i'm in pain - i can't imagine what she's going to be like when i come home friday.

she thinks i'm going to a sleep clinic  i hate lying to her but she can't handle the truth.

my fear is not coming home to her. :) i know i will it's an irrational fear.

I had in tomorrow at 5:30 in the AM. My surgery is at 7:30. Not sure how much weight I lost in the pre-op diet, I hope it is enough. Good luck to others getting banded tomorrow.

Hey I am back from being BANDED! Yeah me and look Kurby I didn't die  I posted my story on the August Rush thread and on the Surgery Day thread if you want to see how it went for me! Don't be nervous...ALMOST a piece of cake! Notice the metaphor I had to choose!

yaaaa - you're back.

its silly i know - i don't have many fears.

i called my adviser today and had a little chat. then i spoke with my younger brother. he had a heart attack a few years back. he's always been somewhat thin but lead a not so good life style - smoked, drank a bit too much, didn't eat proper.

he's concerned about me and supports me 100% AND IS PICKING ME UP FRIDAY MORNING.

Good Kurby, you will be glad you did!

Diane, congrats my friend! Funny, gas pain is the only thing keeping me up too. The incisions are nothing but the gas sucks! I just keep moving and working with the GasX...

Let us know how you are doing when you can!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
