I posted this under the intro section but wanted to post it here too since I am a fellow august 2010 bandester. my surgery is 08-25- 20.

Hi everyone!! My name is Tracy. I am a 33 year old mom of three. 6 yr old twins and a 14 month old. I have struggled with my weight since I was 12 years old. I have had some short term success with diets and exercise but nothing that ever lasted. Right before I found out I was pregnant with the last baby I had lost 90 lbs (280 highest weight ever to 190). I felt great, was healthy and happy. But of course being pregnant I put the weight back on. Not quite as much as I had lost (thank goodness). Now it seems that I just cant get it off. I have struggled to lose the same 20 pounds over the last year. Take it off and then it just comes right back.

I started researching the LAP-BAND® in March on this year. I had actually thought about it before I lost the 90 lbs. Finally in july after I felt confident that I was make the right decision for me and my family, I went to a seminar. Since I am self pay (hubby's insurance as an exclusion) things have moved pretty fast. I am almost one week into my pre-op diet and scheduled for surgery on the 25th. At my consult I was 251 and I am going to work toward 130-135.

I am so looking forward to getting some of this weight of and feeling better. I look forward to chasing my kids at the park or taking them swimming and not being worried about how i look. There are so very many things that I am looking forward too but most of all I want to give myself every chance I can to watch my children grow up.

Anyways, that's me and the start to my journey!! I look forward to getting to know all of you better and supporting each other as we all venture down the road to happy, healthier selves.

Hello! I am brand new here. I was going to post in Introductions but I am getting banded this month and thought I would post here first. I'm 38, currently weigh 248 and my bmi is 40. I actually don't have a final goal weight yet. I am giving myself lots and lots of small goals to keep myself motivated. My surgery is scheduled for 8/24. I have a bunch of appointments this week - chest x-ray, stress ekg, blood work, medical clearance and pre-surgical consult. It has taken me over 4 months to get approved by my insurance. I just found out last week that I was approved on appeal. I haven't really had the time to get nervous yet. It doesn't even seem real to me yet.

Is anyone else getting banded on 8/24?

Starting: 248 lbs, 40 BMI

1st goal: 224 (10% loss)

2nd goal: 212 wedding weight & wearing my wedding ring comfortably

3rd goal: 185 started dating my husband weight

I'm a week post op and went to have a "first breakfast" through the program I used. They basically started me on my mult-vitamin and gave me some muscle milk. My wounds are healing good too. I've still had some pain and it was pretty bad this morning due to some bad sleep last night, but I'm feeling better now. Turns out I've already lost 42 pounds in three weeks. Bad thing is that I weighed what I do now the first time I went to see the doctor about 16 months ago when I was first considering the band. At least its coming back off though. Good luck to all of the people that are still planning on being banded this August.

I was banded yesterday! I am doing well with only moderate pain. My surgeon found a hiatal hernia when he was in my belly..so I had that fixed before the band surgery.

The staff has been wonderful here at the hospital. I'm only consuming ice chips right now and I am urinating like a race horse!! I am not hungry at all...the ice just helps sooth my throat from the tube they stuck in it.

I'm really excited about starting my new life.

Cheers to August Rush '10!!

I was banded yesterday (8/19) too! They also fixed my hietal hernia. All in all, not too bad of an experience, but it's clearly time to take my pain meds this morning. :-) I don't post much here, but I'm glad that others do and I appreciate the support of the community.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
