experiencing terrible pain in port area when bending over

Recommended Posts

Has anybody else experienced a really bad pain in the port area when leaning over or bending down? It doesn't feel as if it's from the outside or a result of the surgical wound. Rather it feels like it's coming from the inside. It's not something that I've read about so am wondering if it's normal.

Thank you.

It doesn't hurt to ask your doc. It might be normal, I wouldn't bend over for awhile, and see if it just needs more healing time. Hugs!!!

Thanks JoJo. I've been trying to avoid bending over for sure. Sometimes it's just unavoidable. I think a call to my surgeon's office tomorrow is definitely in order. I sure hope this is normal.

I know how you feel. Mine still hurts sometimes when I bend over. I was banded Feb. 8 with the Realize band, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I also get a weird cramp in my lower left side. I got it this morning when I was working out. It's weird.

Thank you for posting Jessica. I'm really hopeful that this pain is temporary. It is definitely extreme. My band is an Allergan.

By the way - I love your Camus quote.

I was banded on the 13th of April and I have the same thing. It's usually just a sharp pain then after a couple of minutes goes away. It is getting better though. It's like now that I am trying not to drop anything so I don't have to bend over, I drop everything!! But let me know what the doctor says if you call. Good Luck!!

Yes, I think that normal though. Your doctor to go through subcutaneous tissue and fat to place your port. The first 5 days after my surgery, the port incision was the worse. It feels like a ripping/tearing sensation. I'm 2 weeks out and it does hurt from time to time.

Thanks so much for the feedback everybody. It's most reassuring to know that I'm not alone. The pain in the port area is constant at this stage. It's the severe pain when bending over that really scares me. I'll definitely call the doctor tomorrow and post here as to what I find out about it.

I have experienced some pain when bending over, but mainly if I flip on my tummy at night or lay on my right side. I just assumed it is because I am so big that they had to cut deeper. I wish I had suggestions on how to make it stop for you, but I can't figure it out.

I was banded April 5 and experiencing the same pain. It gets better and better each day. I'm still unable to sleep laying down. sleeping on the reclining end of the sofa is getting old. My MD said as long as there is no fever, swelling and something else, it's normal.

I am 10 months post op and I still get a bit of port pain bending over sometimes - like a pinching feeling from the inside. Not terrible but uncomfortable and I just quickly adjust myself to overcome it. The most painful part of my operation was the port pain - was over a month before I could sleep on my tummy again - that was the worst part of the op for me, not being able to sleep comfortably. :-)

Well, I'm 3 months post op and I still have pain from time to time. I made the mistake of wearing panty hose the other day and by the end of the day I thought I was dying! After that I hurt for 2 weeks. The doctor told me that where the port is I will have to be careful, but as I lose weight it should get better. You just have to not wear anything too tight for awhile.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
