Banded on 12/30/2009 and need support

Recommended Posts

Hi All! I was banded on 12/30/2009 and have been struggling to lose weight since then. It has been pretty frustrating. I lost 16 pounds before I was banded. Lost 10 pounds before my first fill, then only lost 4 pounds in the 6 weeks following the first fill. I was beginning to wonder if the doctor had actually filled me at all. I was able to eat without much restriction at all. I just had my 2nd fill on Monday. I have lost 3 pounds since then. So, hopefully I will see the weight start coming off! I haven't been able to do much exercising due to a ruptured ovarian cyst. I can't even claim to be making the best food choices. What I need is for people who are going through this, to cheer me on. Will you help?? I look forward to talking to you all!

Thank you so much for replying! I know everything will turn out right. I am just feeling a little down about it right now.

On a completely different subject...how did you get the weight loss ticker into your signature? I can't get mine to load. It keeps telling me "Invalid file."

I too was banded on 12/30. I have only lost 13 pounds. I have had three fills. I have restriction to the point I can't eat FAST or BIG bites but I can still eat about anything if I take an hour to do so. ha

I am getting another fill next week. It will have to be a small one or I wont be able to eat at all but I never feel full so I am sure I am not at any type of sweet spot.

Hey, I'm a slow loser too. I was banded on 12-30-09. I lost 15 lbs the first 2 weeks while I was on liquids, but only lost 3 lbs in the next 4 weeks waiting for my first fill. I returned 3 weeks later for my second fill and had only lost 3 more lbs. I can eat anything I want and fairly large amts. I hope my next fill makes a greater difference.!! My Dr. seems to be ok with my loses but I'm not. :)

Hi Ladies, a word of encouragement.

I was banded for the first time in 2003. It took me almost 2 years to loose 110 pounds. Remember, it took me a lifetime to gain all that weight. I kept it off for 5 years until a sudden illness and steroids caused me to regain 50 pounds over 2 years, not the whole 110, that band was still working hard.

I was re-banded on 3/23/10 after having hiatal hernia surgery, so I am starting all over again.

Something I learned is "Don't watch the scales!". In fact, I don't own one! I weigh at the doctor and at the Bariatric Center. I judge my weight loss by how my clothing feels. scale watching can drive you crazy and can frustrate you to no end.

If you are cutting your portions and eating the right stuff, your band will help you take the pounds off. Trust me, I know and I am going to get rid of that 50 pounds and try for 50 more.

Have a Good Day :)

Effie

It should not be as much about what you CAN eat, as what you should be eating. Unfortunately until you have the appropriate restriction you have to be careful to control your portion sizes. Are you journaling your food intake? are you sticking to 800-1200 cal per day and getting enough Protein? Are You drinking enough Water? Having an illness can certainly be a set back, but you did say in your post that you are not making the best food choices. Perhaps you can call your dietician to help you get back on track? You were only banded 3 months ago......your journey is just beginning...... Don't be hard on yourself......"care" for yourself and things will fall into place!

Thanks so much.

I did get my 4th fill last week and have lost 6 pounds already. I'm happy about that but am having a very hard time eating anything but a hamburger patty I make myself at home.

Im worried I may be too tight but I'm going to wait at least three weeks to see if things loosen up.

Hi, I had my band on Jan 30 '10 and am similar to you in that I can eat anything so far. Initially lost 11lb from surgery to first fill but have lost nothing since. I have had a second fill and am now going for a third one. I don't have any restriction and am eating as I used to but I am exercising a lot. I am hoping I will feel restriction soon. I have been told patience is required as some people don't lose/restrict until their 3rd/4th/5th fill. So, we must be patient and take each fill as it comes. I am so looking forward to weight loss and wish you good luck with your band. Keep in touch.

Annabell and Fig:

Hang in there. I felt exactly like you until two weeks ago when I got my 4th fill. I am not not able to eat a lot of things which is what I wanted but it is still a shock when you realize you CAN'T eat the stuff you've been eating the last couple of months. So enjoy this because it IS coming to and end. You will freak the first few days but then you'll start losing and be like... Wow... I can do this. No matter how tight the band you can still eat snack stuff it goes right down so stay away from that junk or you wont lose. Today I had ONE bite of chocolate pie and I moved on. Since my 4th fill two weeks ago I have lost 9 pounds. That's amazing to me. So I am finally there I guess and it kinda sucks not being able to eat the good stuff but that's what we paid for I guess. But what I am realizing is.... I do not need all that food I was eating. I'm eating 1/4 of what I ate before IF that and I'm really never hungry unless I just forget to eat at lunch.

Once you get there you will actually feel like something is WRONG at least I did but then the scale went down and down and I was like... Ah ha... maybe nothings wrong maybe this is the band actually doing what it's suppose to do.

Email me any time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
