As an aside here, will someone let me know how you all get that cool stuff after your comments - the tickers and such? I made a ticker, but don't know how to make it show up on my profile or with my comments. Thanks!

Ticker tutorial:

I'm one week post-op today... and I can eat canned fish, baked potatoes (no skin), mashed potatoes, overcooked veggies, Cereal, and a bunch of other junk.

So, today after my post-op apt, I went straight to get a baked potato. I felt no restriction what-so-ever? Then, I got home and made some cauliflower (sp?), squash, and broccoli, and half of a salmon patty... still no feeling of restriciton.

However, just a couple days ago my woman got me some junk called malt-o-meal (which was on the approved list for post-op), and I couldn't eat a whole serving of that.

Talking to my buddy that had this done in December, he said he was kind of in the same boat. He said that it was because I had lost so much weight since the banding and there isn't any Fluid in the band. Not sure how right he is, but it sounds good to me.

BTW, since the pre-op diet start, I've lost at least 33 pounds... 35 if I use what the scale said this morning. I don't think it's right, though. That's 3 weeks of liquids.< /p>

I started the soft normal food today and had part of a hamburger tonight. Soooooo good! Was afraid of how it would sit with my stomach but everything was fine.

Get my first fill next week and have to be careful to avoid pbing and stuck food. Will go back to liquids for a couple days before eating the soft and full normal foods. I'm a little scared of what it will be like when this band really goes into operation!

Where did you get banded? Your instructions sound just like mine... I was banded by Dr. Smith in Fort Worth on 3/17. Congratulations on your loss so far!

i think it's so wierd how all the doctors do it so differently. some doing liquids for weeks, some doing them for only a few days, and etc. i wonder how each doctor decides how he wants his/her post op diet to be.

I used the very same Dr. Smith... and on the very same day! Just had my post-op yesterday, and will get my first fill on 4/9.

Yay... band buddies! Have you noticed that everyone else's post-op diets are a lot more restrictive? I'm the type to get paranoid about that kind of thing, so it's worrying me. Like you, I started soft/canned foods yesterday, and I feel awesome so far, but I'm afraid that my band is going to slip despite all my fervent chewing! :)

I think the strict liquid diets that most doctors have their patients follow is to slowly introduce these foods to the band. I know I can probably eat mushies no problem right now (I am one week banded and have one more week of liquids to go). It is hard because I'd love to eat something different. There isn't much variety on the liquid diet. I can't even have cottage cheese right now as it's not considered a liquid. So one more week.

It was hard tonight to not snitch a french fry from my son's dinner. I made him cheeseburgers (he is a teen and football player growing like a weed). It was so hard to smell that with the grilled onions and not eat anything! Not to be able to nibble on the cheese was the worst!!!

LOL...

Yeah, some are much more strict. I get paradoid, and was getting a little concerned that maybe it wasn't working or maybe slipped, then I took a little to big of a bite of my tuna yesterday. I now know what it's like to get stuck for a little while. Yuck.

Two weeks liquids, two weeks mushies, and then add in soft foods. I'm at the end of my first week of liquids, and though I'm craving real food, I'd be afraid to go too fast. I have Carnation Instant Breakfast, Protein Shakes, watery grits, fruit juice, Jello, broth, etc. I'm getting a little alarmed at my rapid weight loss. Literally three pounds a day for the last four days cannot be healthy.

Protein shakes .... what kind I have not had surgery yet

Ugh... I'm so glad that hasn't happened to me yet. I'm sure it will soon though!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
