Newly banded and new to this forum

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was banded on 2/24/10. I have lost 15 lbs from my highest ever weight so far (including preop diet). My surgeon is Dr. Benavides in Dallas, Tx.

A little about myself: I am a 27 year old 'sole provider' of two young children. My son is 3 years old, my daughter is 2 years old. My soulmate went to wait for me in heaven in November of 2008. I am doing this for my children, and for me...and so I can be proud of the way my life went after my husband past away. I want him to be proud of me when I get to see him again. I have well over 100 lbs to lose, but I am mostly looking for being healthy for my children, and ensuring that they never miss out on anything just because I am a 'sole provider' and too tired or lazy.

I look forward to making lots of friends here, and I am truly inspired by the stories I have seen. Hopefully I'll be one of them soon! :)

Welcome Rachel.

I am in Keller and just had my surgery yesterday.

How is your band treating you so far?

Hi!! Wow, your success Pre-band is amazing!

Honestly, the only way I can tell that I have the band is by all of my pain and bruising..haha. I'm still on liquids, but I feel hungry almost all the time. I am one week post op, and I have not lost any additional weight from the date of my surgery and its kind of discouraging. But I'm sticking to Drs orders. I know it will come off with time, and especially after a fill.

How are you feeling?

Hey Rachel,

Congratulations on your band! I'm glad your feeling well. Just a quick word of encouragement, I was hungry after the surgery too. I gained weight before my first fill but (here is the good part) I have lost an average of 2 pounds a week since my first fill. So don't gauge your overall success by the time between your surgery and your first fill.

Hi Rachael, my name is Denise I live in Las Vegas Nevada.I'm 43 ,married and have 4 boys.

I was Banded on Feb 18,2001 I'm 2 weeks post tommorrow.

I Feeling great and I have lost 12 pounds since the surgery.

Finally rid of the arm pain from gas ,just some pain at port but I'm able to do ever thing.

tommorrow I go to mushie food and i can't wait ,tired of liquids.< /p>

I am not hungry at all , but to say the least I'm a junk food junkie so I would still love a donut or candy , so far I haven t touched them.Everything is still so new. I would like to lose a 100 to goal but I'm striving for at least 50 by summer ,for some nice summer cloths. Some skimpy summer stuff.

I would love to keep contact and chat while we go thru this its nice to have someone going thru the same thing.Add me to your Friends list if you like and since our surgery's are so close we can compare notes anytime. Hope to hear from you.

Leigha,

That is so encouraging! thank you for sharing! I know that 15 lbs down in 3 weeks (from start of preop diet) is pretty good, so I should stop complaining but sometimes its easier to say and harder to do. Looking at the folks on this site and their fantastic results is what keeps me going while my stomach is growling!:scared2:

Denise,

Congratulations! I would love to be one of your band-buddies. best of luck, hope your success continues!:)

I'm 26 and I too am newly banded 2/26/2010 Congrats to us~ :scared2: from my heaviest to now including my pre-op diet I've lost 30lbs:ohmy: even I can't believe it! At first I thought I had made a mistake because I was so uncomfortable, but now I'm beginning to feel much better. My tummy is still rumbling loudly and I feel like I'm gonna explode from the gas at times :) but it really has gotten easier. I have found this web-site to be a major blessing! People here are so friendly and I have used it so many time to ask questions of people with greater wisdom than me. When I think I'm doing something wrong or something doesn't seem right- I just ask and people are so quick to respond! Good luck to you and I look forward to hearing about your success

Yes, I'm still on the liquid diet (for 10 days post surgery, which will be this Sunday). I'm allowed Clear Liquids, Protein Shakes, nonfat yogurt and sugar free pudding. My calorie intake has been between 600-800 per day on the liquids... its not TOO bad, but sometimes i feel like i could kill someone for a bite to chew on!:)

Try Greek yogurt (if its allowed, if not use it when you go to mushies) it is thicker and really stays around longer for me. Plus it has 14 Proteins for 140 calories. I try and keep my Protein sources at least 1 protein for 10 calories.

Thanks Leigha! I will definitely pick some of this up this weekend and give it a try! I'm not looking forward to the 'mushies' phase, because it seems like mostly unhealthy things are the ones that you can eat during that time....creamy Soup, mashed potatos, macaroni...argh. I would love to eat a salad or something. Oh well, in due time i guess.

Wow worker, that's great! What I wouldn't give to be a size 10/12 again!!! I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high...but I have lots of hope, and I definitely know that I must take the responsibility to make my band work, its not magic. :(

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
