Thanks Froggie D! I plan on posting my surgery day experience and tracking my recovery progress as soon as I get home from the hospital and am feeling up to it. I don't think 4/1 can get here soon enough! :w00t:

I was scheduled for April 2 but now April 9, 2010. I have been on the South Beach Phase 1 diet for 2 weeks and have lost 16 pounds. Trying to cut down on my portion sizes now so maybe things will be a little easier. I look forward to my new journey!!!

Hey Bandster Bunnies! So I met with Dr. Nazarian today. He was very pleasant and no yawning, like a few people experienced in the past. I'm glad he was attentive and made good eye contact. He was very patient with my questions and I thought it was a decent experience.

I have a few tests to do before my surgery date, which means I'll be quite busy the next two weeks, with Dr. appointments and lab work.

I asked about the pre-op liquid diet and he said that my weight was within a range that did not require the diet. For those with a higher BMI he requires a post-op diet. I guess I'm fortunate, because I still get to eat food up until the night of my surgery. I also found out that I've dropped 3 pounds since my last visit. That's a good thing too.

I'm very excited. I hope I clear the EKG, and blood work. Wish me luck all!

Hey has anyone else been told that they'll have to have a hernia repair due to acid reflux? My doctor believes I have a hernia and said he will fix it at no extra cost. I hope this doesn't prolong my recovery!

Warmest Regards to all!

Ravyn

When I told my doctor about my recurrent heartburn she mentioned that I probably have a hiatal hernia and that she would fix it at no extra cost during surgery. Apparently it is a very common thing, especially among weight-loss patients, and it does not prolong our recovery.

Monty - I keep the economy size Tums next to my bed so I can sleep. It's ridiculous. Im glad it can be fixed. Now I can save my Tums money to buy a new pair of jeans ; )

I have a question. Where do April 2010 Banders post at the most. In here? In the April 2010 board? In the Group? Or all of the above? Just curious. :)

Definitely in the social group mamsugar started for all of us... we have about a dozen or so posts there so far. Granted, this thread is getting long and has a lot of posts on it, but the group will offer more.

Hey Bandster Bunnies. I just made my pre-op appointment for the EKG, X-Rays and Blood work. This is going to come up so fast. I'm starting to have doubts about the whole thing.

I am afraid that I'll be nauseous, but unable to throw-up because the band will be too tight. I'm also afraid that I'll just fail at this, like I've failed with the trainer, nutritionist and all my other attempts to keep myself at a healthy weight.

Guess I'm just in a very fearful place today because Im one step closer.

I hope I'm not alone in this.

Scared!

Ravyn

Hello everyone. As I mentioned before my last appointment was Friday. I've had my blood work, EKG, Psy Eva. I am just waiting on the Aenta final approval. Dr. Hollis, Houston, Tx requires you to lose 10 lbs before surgury so I will have to do the Protein Shakes for two weeks prior to surgury. Should I begin this now or is it 10 lbs from the date of approval? I am confused.

I am schedule to my preop diet on April 8th. 2 weeks of liquids only...I'm a lil nervous about that. Partially because I am not good at getting in all my water. So, I am pushing really hard right now to up that so when my food will be liquid I won't stop drinking water.

Good luck with your surgery and I am sure you will do great!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
