Only protein on diet?

Recommended Posts

I'm very new to this, just now considering it. Had visit with the surgeon yesterday, and she told me that after the band is placed, the only food I can eat is "hard food that has to be cut"--she only mentioned meats. Says this is because she wants to make sure her patients get enough Protein. No fruits, vegetables or carbos allowed. She says you can get what you need from those by taking Multi Vitamins and benefiber every day. This doesn't seem right to me--what kind of nutritional plan only allows protein? She also nixed Protein Drinks because they don't make you feel full "they go right thru you". What does everybody think of this?

The reality is that every doctor is different. With your doctor's plan you will have great wt loss because you would never have any slider foods or high cal foods. That being said, we are human with food issues and few if any ppl can stay on a Protein only diet. Many banders eat their portion of hard protein first then if they have room have some vegetables, then if they still have room eat some complex carbs. Often the hard protein will fill you up once you have restriction.

Good luck,

Mimi

Hmm, that seems odd to me. One of the banded rules is to make sure you have the Protein first in all of your meals and that seems to be universal regardless of where you have surgery.

Everything that I've read (I did extensive research prior to surgery) including the guidelines from my surgery centre encourages food from all food groups; whole grains, fruit, dairy. Avoid simple carbohydrates.

I cannot imagine anyone being able to subsist on just Protein nor does it sound like a healthy way to eat. It certainly does not make for a balanced diet. Is there a nutritionist or dietician you can speak to?

Everyone one this site says to follow YOUR doctors instructions so my opinion is to get another doctor!!

I am 3 weeks post op today and have had a 1/2 of banana, canned peaches, even...BREAD this week!!! whole wheat of course  In fact last week when my surgeron told me I could move to soft foods he even recommended mac and cheese....just while healing, after I am accoustomed to the band, I am not supposed to make a meal off mac and cheese b/c ...it doesn't have much Protein and can get through the band easier.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
