Chewable (yummy) Calcium!

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd share a great find from this morning!

I got my Walgreens calcium citrate pill stuck yesterday, so I mentioned it to someone at work and she pulls out this little foil thing that I thought was candy. Here it was a little tootsie roll-tastin' Calcium chewable (Viactiv).

I am going to pick some up after work today. I am not going to suffer like I did yesterday every again. OUCH!

Just thought I'd share for recent post-ops or anyone looking for a softer alternative to the big horsepills

Hi, I've been using these since April. Really good. Also use

Tony Hawk chewables from Walmart. Texture like gum drops.

I found Calcium Gummy Bears with Vitamin D. However they have 15 calories each and I eat 4 a day... But it takes care of my candy fix and my calcium all at once... A bottle of 200 costs about 8 bucks at Costco..

They actually told me/us in the pre-op class, not to use viactiv because they get stuck. I would check with your dr's office first.

They are called Lil Critters and they are made for Children... I don't like the raspberry ones so my grandsons eat those and I eat the orange ones... They are super soft and chew up to near liquid... Each one has 200Mg of Calcium and 200 ui of Vitamin D. A childs dose is 2 per day so I take 4...

costco actually carries a line of Adult Multivitamin gummies that I had a free sample of that I'm going to buy next time I go in...

I chew flintstones (the orange box ones) - lol

I've been taking them since I was a kid. Pretty much non-stop. Now I have an excuse to take childrens Vitamins. My Surgeon's office actually recommends them.

And they are yummy. :smile2:

I love these you can get them at target as well. You can only get Vit C and Multi in adult form at costco. Target carries those 2 and Vit D, Cal, and fish oil. I find all of them great tasting they fish oil isn't as good as the others but does the job. :smile2:

I use the Viactiv too - after having a stuck episode and my ONLY PB experience in a year. My nut and doc said the Viactiv was ok eventhough it's not Calc Citrate - getting enough works, and I'll actually get them in every day for life. The Viactiv are only 5 cal each I think? And come in choc and caramel.

My nutritionist recommended the Viactiv...said a lot of people like them cause they are like there evening tootsie roll! I got them and they are good! I was worried about taking them now that I'm only on liquids and my surgery corrdinator said just cut them up into 4ths. So I'll try that! Nothing taste great right now...so I think I'll wait a couple days till I'm off the clears. But yes they are GOOD!!!!!

Viactiv is Calcium carbonate, I'm on strict orders to take calcium citrate only HOWEVER have not been able to find a chewable calcium carbonate anywhere...anyone have any suggestions? (citrate is supposed to be absorbed better, however, at this point I'm using carbonate because I figure it's better than nothing and while I haven't had problems with normal sized pills, swallowing the horse pills post-band scares me)

After a year, I finally found a wonderful tasting chewable calcium citrate supplement. It's called lemon cream calcel citrate. It tastes like lemon cake or cake batter. I think it's yummy and I have hated every Calcium I have tried and have given away many bottles. It's pricey, but worth it. You can google it or go to getcalcet.com

My Dr. said absolutely no calcium carbonate.

I second the recommendation for Calcet--it's really good. Much smoother and tastier than Viactiv, which I also like.

Calcet's supposed to be coming out with chocolate, too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
