Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

DId anyone else receive a "card" with info on their band? I didn't get anything like that...

I received a whole little packet of information with a member ID number. It came with a little temporary ID card, and I went on lapband.com and I filled in my information and they sent me an actual patient ID card with all of mine and my Dr.'s information.

Awesome Stevie!

I hope to lose some weight from this pre-op diet. My scale isn't moving very much. I know - don't check it every day but I do because I'm a nosy body. LOL! It's moved maybe a pound. Ugh. I'm on day 5 of my preop. It's getting easier. I no longer want to stab people who are carrying food. Ha ha ha!

Of course, today I had a co-worker shame me for having the surgery. That was fun... NOT. :tongue2: I don't get people sometimes. Oh well...

a little unsolicited advice: be cautious about who you tell for just the reason you said. I think "dieting" and "weight loss" are like parenting, in that everyone has the right idea and best solution and they feel compelled to share it. shame is such a nonproductive thing anyway. so peace and love and good luck to you! I was banded March 8 and am doing very well ...

Hi Bandsters,

So - it is 9 days post surgery and am really feeling great! I went to the doecot on Thursday and all seems to be going well. We (all those who had surgery the same day) spent about an hour and a half in a nutrition class. It was very informative.

I had no pre-op diet and was on a liqiuid diet until yesterday. Yesterday was my first day on the mushy diet. It consists of 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day with 2 optional 1/4 cup Snacks (same food as eaten during meals. I love the part skim ricotta with a bit of Tomato sauce. Luckily - they also alow eggs and watermelon in this stage. I will be on this phase until next Saturday when I can add alot more.

So - I am going to have to learn to read my body. They say to eat the 1/2 cup or until you feel full. I don't feel full, but a half an hour, or an hour later feel VERY full. They say to make the meal last for 1/2 an hour, but considering that you are eating only 1/2 cup - this is almost impossible.

So - the weight loss is going really well - down 19 pounds in 9 days. I cannot believe it. I joined a gym and have begun walking - up to half an hour.

Hope all is going well for the early March surgeries. :scared2:

Starting Weight - 350

Current Weight - 331

Goal Weight - 200

WOW! What an inspiration you are to me. I start my second week on the pre op tomorrow. I know I can do it now. The week of liquids I think I will be fine with I can't wait to get to the mushy week knowing that real food can't be far behind although limited. Sounds great to me. You are doing wonderful and I'm very happy for you. Keep up the goo:drool:d work! Eileen

Good Evening all,

So it is official I am banded. My surgery was last friday, and I'm feeling pretty good. My starting weight was 300, and the day of the surgery I had lost 20 pounds on the pre-op diet. Today I weight myself and I have lost ten pounds since the surgery.

I'm having to learn to drink all over again, in the past I was a Water gulper and now that hurts like a bad word when I do it. Someone had suggested purchasing the sippy cups that kids used so I did. I am now drinking from a SpongeBob cup, which is making it kind of fun!!

Today I probably did more than I should have, and am feeling it now. I also decided to make my husband dinner instead of him eating another cardboard box meal. He does not mind them, but I wanted to do something nice for him. I made meatloaf, mashed taters, and gravy. It was nice making dinner, and not even being tempted by it.

I've seen posts about a card for the lapband, I did get some information, but no temp card. I will ask the doctor on friday when i go in for my one week check up. I also ordered a medic alert Bracelet which my doctor suggested. Did anyone elses doctor advise getting one?

I hope everyone banded before me is doing well and to the ones yet to be banded good luck and hang in there. I know you can do it!!!!!

Congrats Monica!

I get banded this Friday so right behind you! I didn't have to do a preop diet. I think the two week liquid diet afterwards is going to be hard enough for me. I also have to go back to work the following Tuesday. Ugh...I may postpone that until Wednesday but we will see.

Yeah everything is going great! I got a little whiney last night and still felt that way today, but the pain is pretty much gone and I get to advance my diet soon, so all is good.

Thanks for asking and good luck to you :scared2:

Hi Parisluver,

Good Luck on Friday I know you will do great. The liquid diet is not that bad, at first I thought it might be, but it really is mind over matter. I do tend to get bored with the broth as I am not a fan of beef broth, so I have only chicken broth. Also I had a lot of people in my group at the doctors office raving about this MISO Soup. They were saying it was so good and full of flavor. I purchased some to try and unless you really like fish soup it is NASTY!!!!!!!! I could not even get it past my nose........no one told me it was a fish broth.......YUCK!!!

Ah when you make Miso soup out of a package it does not taste good. I do like Miso soup from the Japanese steakhouses which they serve with ginger salad before a hibachi dinner. Rather tastes very good. I am not a fan of homemade miso soup. I do like sushi on the other hand.

I'm not a big fan of fish, I'm learning to like it, but only like salmon, and the white fishes, however I do love tuna.< /p>

I have never had sushi so i don't know if i would like it or not, but i might be willing to try it. :cursing:

Im only a fan of cetrain fish like Tilapia, and tuna (in a can). I only like salmon in a philadelphia role for sushi. My hubby lovessss salmon and I dont! I miss sushi I havent had any since surgery, because I am not trying to do the rice thing yet!

I am anxious for 4/14 thats when I get my first fill! and I dont have a scale so I dont know my numbers all the time I go by the Dr office scale because anyother scale is different.

Hi Everyone. Had surgery Monday and had a one night stay. I've been getting rest and getting around fine. I'm feeling great and start full liquids tomorrow. No meds today, just some tylenol. A little bummed the scale hardly moved since pre-op, only down 2 lbs and have had nothing but clears since monday. It could just be temporary post op Water retention. (I hope). Glad to hear everyone is doing well.

BTW, Miso Soup sometime has (bonito) fish in it. Miso you can make at home is just a soy based fermented rice- I love it!! Salty though. It sometimes smells fishy because of the seaweed.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
