Question for Women ONLY

Recommended Posts

Ok, ladies, I've been on Depo provera and have not had a period in 3 years. I am 6 days post op and started my period last night. This is very strange for me and was wondering if anyone else experienced this. Is this a coinsidence or did surgery/drugs "knock out" my Depo Shot? I was spoiled for 3 years not having one and this is definately not a time I would want it.

It's the anesthetics. In my preop paperwork Doc warned his female patients that we may start some spotting or mensus very early for the month.

Don't worry. I would however use other contraceptions until your sure your depo is working. Last thing you need right now is a baby!

Funny I'm having the opposite problem and was coming on here to post a question....

I should have started my period and haven't. I can only assume it's the hormone change from surgery/healing.

Prior to surgery I was in full PMS mode about to start any day had surgery and now nothing...

Anyone else experience this?

I am not up to date on all the new stuff like depo as I have not had a visit from aunt flo in over 20 years, but...

they gave me antibiotics to take after surgery. I know antibiotics will make "the pill" ineffective, but not sure how they effect the depo shot.

If I were you, I would use other forms of birth control for awhile if you are in the position where pregnancy could happen.

The same thing happened to me. I have been on Depo off and on for at least five years. I had my period a few days after surgery it was heavy and then over with. I went back to my "normal" which is all of the annoying symptoms of PMS but no period the next month. Haven't had it since and my surgery was two years ago. I don't think you have anything to worry about! Good Luck!

Actually the same thing happened to me. I was suprised b/c I had just finished my cycle about 3 days pre-op. Sure enough, AF came to visit again about a week after surgery.

I am also on Depo... I had to stop before the surgery.... I was due for a shot close to my surgery date but I did not take the shot... I imagine that the "trauma" of the surgery may have caused you to have a period... or... if you had to stop like I did, that is probably why...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
