  5. Protein Shakes are not to be an alternative to foods. Your body needs fuel and therefore, you need to eat along with taking the protein shakes, powders or other means of protein. When is your surgery? What surgery is it? If you are getting headaches, you want to take in more protein, it is not giving you a headache, the lack of nutrients is giving you the headaches. Your body is talking to you in its own way. Good luck!
  6. Congratulations, you are doing well. Keep up the great work! Bariatric life is life-long.
  7. If you are getting in your hydration, good for you. After surgery there is swelling and healing going on to your stomach. So you would "feel full" and may have discomfort. I had no problems, no pain, no discomfort when in the liquid stage of post op, and still I am drinking a lot of fluids. I'm not sipping any more, I'm taking in gulps, but not overdoing it. It is normal for some to completely feel nothing. Liquids are running right through the stomach you have left, so feeling full will be fleeting. Once you are eating soft or pureed foods, you will feel the fullness and that's when you stop eating, regardless of time. Good luck and welcome to Bariatric Life!
  8. After a year, it will be on special occasions. I am not a big alcohol drinker to begin with, so it is not too difficult for me. I take pride in not drinking. I live my life how I want to, but even communion at Church, I take the grape juice instead of the wine. But you do you, just keep in mind that it could become a transfer addiction if not being aware of your drinking. Wishing you luck.

  11. Your poop will be different consistencies and colors, textures and smells depending on what you are eating. High protein diets cause stinky poops, but they they are well formed and not too loose. What more do you want to know?
  12. Hi, You have a lot of questions, I would strongly urge you to join BariNation, or watch some of their pod casts or YouTube videos and learn more about what you are about to embark on. It is not just a weight loss surgery it is metabolic and there are a lot of issues that can be easily easing of your mind if you have answers. I joined BariNation pre-op and still am with them. It does cost a little each month, but it is also one place where you get licensed social workers that are experienced with bariatric patients, nutritionists/dieticians that are also used to working with bariatric patients and physicians and surgeons come on and do question and answer sessions. For a small amount of money, you can attend any group you want and ask all the questions you may have and that will ease your mind of all stuff in your mind. Good luck!

  14. Get yourself a personal trainer and practice doing strength training and weight lifting. As you lose weight, you lose muscle mass too, so be sure to eat your protein and work on the strength. It will do you wonders.

  18. I had no problems with stairs post surgery. I stayed in the hospital only for 23 hours and was discharged home, and rode home easily, walking was easy and stairs were good too. I had no pain with my surgery, just a little discomfort, it is nothing like a C-section since there are only 5 small 1-inch incisions and they never used sutures on my body, they used Dermabond, a super glue for skin. I showered the next day and felt great. Got dressed every day and was off work for 2 weeks, but I didn't need to take but a few days off. I was driving on my own on day 3, with seatbelt and all. No issues. Some people have problem with the gas that they blow up the abdomen with, but I didn't have any problems with it. Wishing you well!
  19. Congratulations on finding your happy place in life! Thanks for sharing.

  25. That sounds like your eating a little too much and that's why you feel like burping. It is hard to do when you are full. It may be a sign that you are full too, but you are not listening to your tummy saying, "enough". How many weeks out are you? I'm 15 weeks post op and still only eating 3 oz every meal.

  27. When is your surgery? You are supposed to count the tea, broth and shakes as part of your fluid intake. At least that is what my Team told me. Keep up the good work, it is a hard process right now but gets better over time. Be well.
